This is our take on a Passionfruit Martini, a drink that commands unmatched popularity, and for good reason. The sweet citrusy flavour and almost custardy texture of fresh passion fruit lend themselves perfectly to use in cocktails. It’s also one of the four cocktails we teach on our Autumn/Winter seasonal cocktail masterclasses.
This is a simpler, fresher cousin to the more famous vanilla-and-champagne-featuring behemoth that is the Porn Star Martini. A concise combination of vodka, passion fruit syrup, lime juice and fresh passion fruit is designed to push the unique tropical zing of the passion fruit to the forefront.
This cocktail is as easy to drink as it is to make and is sure to please even the fussiest of drinkers.
INGREDIENTS:
🍸 40ml Vodka
🔶 20ml Passion Fruit Syrup
🟢 20ml Lime Juice
🧡 Half a Fresh Passion Fruit (retain shell for garnish)
COCKTAIL TRIVIA:
The world-famous progenitor to this cocktail was only created in 2002 by bartender and LAB bar founder Douglas Ankrah at The Townhouse bar in Knightsbridge. Ankrah first christened the cocktail the Maverick Martini, in a hat tip to a dodgy club in Cape Town, but changed the name to the Porn Star Martini.
METHOD:
1. Fill a martini glass with crushed ice and set it aside to chill.
2. Meanwhile, in a Boston glass or shaker, using your jigger to measure, combine all the ingredients.
3. Fill shaker with cubed ice, seal, and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds.
4. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
5. Garnish with the empty passion fruit half.
6. Serve and enjoy.
