There is an awesome hillbilly way to make a pattern by wrapping in saran wrap, and then wrap a layer of packing tape over that-then you draw the seam lines where you want them and cut it off of the form, whether it be a body or an item. From there, you take each piece and create slits where darts would be in order to get each pattern piece flat. Then add movement allowance, and then, a seam allowance. You do that by laying each saran/tape section onto butcher paper or light pellon interfacing (I use the pellon that has a grid already printed in it), that way you can add that movement allowance and seam allowance. This can be used for unusually shaped objects, like a handbag you want of a certain shape, a person’s exact shape, or for shoemaking for both regular feet and problem feet. I’m sure there are videos about this, including some that are about making your own fitting mannequin that is your own exact size. I have also taken classes on “the universal pattern” for both tops and pants. It’s helpful to know that info, but this creating your own 3D model with saran and tape is surprisingly effective. I’ve used it for shoemaking, and I think I’ll use it to make sand-proof (not just water shoes) using the 4-way stretch white/black fabric from RSBR for the shoe uppers. I’m pretty excited to try out that stretch mesh nylon 6.6 w/ Dyneema composite on these sandproof shoes. Everyone is making “water” shoes-but they still just fill up with sand and small pebbles. Time to make my own gear!
