How to Make a Picnic Table - Plans and Instructions
In this video I follow my plans and show all of the easy steps to make a four seat picnic table. The picnic table is made from ten 2”x6”x8’ Western Red Cedar boards and is designed to minimize the amount of lumber needed. This table can be build with a drill driver, a speed square, a pencil, and a hand saw if needed. I use power tools in the video but it isn’t necessary.
Thank you!

I made one of these yesterday and sold it today. Now I will make a few more I really wanted one for my self, but money sure does talk. I incorporated wood glue and pocket holes in the design and sprayed some polyurethane on it as well. Thanks Make Build Modify for taking the time to give some insight on this.

@Samsonmetaphysical

Well I made it out of redwood and I really didn't want to sell it, but one of the neighbors offered me $220. So I sold it to him for his family to enjoy.

Apparently, pressure-treated wood is safe enough these days, to not worry about it, but my concern is, you cannot really stain pressure-treated wood, unless you let it dry for 3 months first, or some such ridiculously long time. Would you build these out of pressure-treated wood, or not? Thanks! Also, thanks for making these plans available in .pdf. They're very clear, I was just confused what the red slanted crossed through lines indicate, at ends of cuts.
@Makebuildmodify
@Makebuildmodify Год назад
Personally, I wouldn't. pressure treated wood splinters are no fun. I would use standard douglas fir 2x6's before I used PT.

I think the A-frame pieces should be fastened with carriage bolts, but I worry that the bolt ends would make the picnic table less comfortable. Anyone try to add carriage bolts to this build?

@@Makebuildmodify Ok, thanks. I asked because I see people saying they add those, to prevent inevitable racking.
@Makebuildmodify

@@ignatiusreilly8280 it's probably better to add the bolts. It depends on the amount of use the table will get.

Just finished the table. Had to adjust some of the measurements. The seat was way too low at 15 and a half. Went 14 inches down from Top. The top is just a little high by an inch or two I think. And the table could be adjusted to just have five words on top. Making a small 4-person table period. Which I didn't do. There's no perfect dimensions. But a couple inches difference in a few ways, especially how high the seed is, I think makes this much better
@Makebuildmodify

Nice! Good to hear that adjustments are easy.

I noticed, after looking at the downloaded plans, you won't be able to cut each board at 48" from a 2x6x8 board. You need to account for the saw kerf. Otherwise you'll have to some boards just a little shorter than others.
@Makebuildmodify
@Makebuildmodify 5 лет назад
Good question. Most of the lumber I used was a little longer that 8'. Something like 96 3/8". I had a couple that were right at 8' so I used them for the other parts of the build. But if you can only find 8' stock just find the center and cut on center. You'll end up with boards that are all the same and just a little shorter than the callout in the plans. Having 48" exactly is not as important making the top planks all the same will look the better. Another tip: take your time selecting your lumber and only get stock with good ends. Thanks for asking!
