I will show you how to make a popper lure using a suction cup. The action of this topwater depends on the weight you put in the tail side. If you choose a weight of about 3.8 grams, you will have a basic popper. On the other hand, if you choose a weight of about 3.3 grams, it will swim on the surface like a pencil bait.

Cypress wood sheet: 5 mm.
Balsa wood sheet: 6 mm.
Lure screw eyes.
Split shot sinker (tail): 3.3 or 3.8 grams.
Split shot sinker (front): about 1.5 grams.
Suction cup: Diameter 18 mm.
Hooks size: Two No6.

I like your idea of using the hard wood inner 3rd section for inserting the weights and as a solid anchor for the hook and tie rings. Haven’t seen that before. Another great lure! Thanks for sharing. 🙂. The suction cup was another creative idea. Curious why you chose to seal the lure after inserting the suction cup as opposed to sealing first? 🤔🤔

Thank you very much. I would like to introduce various lures in the future🙂. The reason why I sealed the suction cups before installing them is to make the wood more waterproof. The surface of the lure is coated in the last process, but the area around the mouth and the suction cup can be difficult to coat. Therefore, I thought that applying adhesive to the back of the suction cup would make it more waterproof.

Yaa-! Haru san. Thank you very much for another fine video. I have two questions: 1. Why did you use a center layer of harder cypress, sandwiched between two layers of balsa? 2. Did you try this lure WITHOUT the suction cup in the front and compare the pop and splash of both versions? Please keep up the great work.

I think it is because he doesnt use through wire. In balsa wood fish could just rip out screw eyes. In hard wood they will hold up to it.

Thank you for your question. Since the first answer seems to have already been answered correctly, I will answer the second question. I have never used a suction cup-less popper, so this is just my prediction, I think it will probably work like a short length pencilbait.

I really like the sandwiched approach in adding lead. The smelly lead pot can't be good for you. To do it right, you will have to add ventilation (vent to outside).

I thought this was cool too. I’ve seen some of his other videos where he shows how he folds the paper and cuts off the end to make the epoxy dispenser. Check out some of his earlier lures. 🙂

Thanks for the question. I don't have any experience in making a balsa wood only, but if you do make the popper from balsa wood, I think you will need to add some weight, because balsa is highly buoyant. In addition, balsa wood is very soft, so you will need to embed dowels to attach screw eyes.

Thanks for the question. I made this eye screw by hand using soft stainless steel wire. Thanks for the question. I am using these bait tackles. It is a short fishing rod, so I can easily manipulate the lure. *Rod: Shimano, Scorpion 1581-F. *Reel: Shimano, SLX-MGL_70HG. *Line: Sanyo-Nylon, Super GT-R 12lb.

Thanks for the question. The brands I use are "Nagashima" and "Mr Hobby (Mr_Color)". Mr_Color is originally designed for model painting, so I think it's easy to find in hobby stores. On the other hand, Nagashima's epoxy coatings may be difficult to find outside of Japan, unfortunately. Therefore, you will need to look for an epoxy coating agent that is sold for coating fishing rods.
