I reaaally wanna see how they turned out after glazing. I try to do different carved patterns on my plates for the glaze to pool in. But the idea of a little frame framing the food is quite interesting!

Do u wax the entire bottom of the plate for glazing? That's seems like a large area to keep that bare look on but the shape looks fine. I love these plate videos so far.

Hi, I wanted to say thanks for your detailed videos, they are so so helpful! I have a couple of questions: When you throw the plates, how thick is the base of the plate? And you mentioned you dry the plates slowly over a couple of days. Do you cover them up at all during the drying process or do you let them dry uncovered?

How did you get the bottom of your plates sp smooth before trimming? I did not see any cutting marks from the wire. Exactly what method do you use from after throwing to trimming? Do you wire off the plate and then again before trimming or don't you wire off these pieces? Your response will really better my understanding, thank you! Your work and videos are amazing

I love your videos. Could you please let me know where I can find the tool you use on top of a piece when you trim? I too, love trimming. I feel like it refines the shape and makes the clay smooth and soft. I also find scraping the bats. Thanks for giving me the confidence to attempt plates.

I have a burning question. Since you dont trim a foot ring, do you just leave the bottom unglazed? Is that alright? If it is alright, is it possible to not trim the piece if youre throwing thin enough?

One of your trimming tools appears to be a Bison triangle one from which one of the sides has been removed. Did it come this way? Or is this an adjustment you made? You have beautifully maintained tools; I am awestruck by your self-discipline. As many have already said, thank you ever so much for making these really fine videos!

Hey Florian, long time silent follower. Recently all my large plates have been cracking down the rims and around the area the rim meets the body of the plate while drying. Is this likely a result of drying too quickly? For how long do I need to keep them under plastic after trimming?
@floriangadsby
@floriangadsby 2 года назад
Hey Todd! It sounds like either you're trying them out too quickly or perhaps there's a disparity between the thickness of the rim of the plate and the base section. Sometimes if one part is much thicker than the other it'll cause part of the pot to split but rim cracks are famously a result of the pot drying out too quickly. I'll keep mine under plastic for 3-4 days, if not longer if I'm able.
