Nice idea using inserts, that way you can break down for storage as well and not risk breaking frame. It too will help with part removal. Can wait to see first project.

Great project, two things to think of one is silicon doesn't stick well to HPDE but as tight of gaps that you have the resign may not seep. The other is you will find that having the sides removable to get your projects out is going to come in very . If you do have seeping issues there is clay compounds that you can put in the cracks that will give you a radius, seal and will not affect you work.

I suspect you already know this; the HDPE is a great attachment to any of your saw fences. Very slick stuff and won't damage a blade if you woops.

I bought a .010” thick by 2” wide roll of it with self adhesive tape. It is great for all kinds of friction surfaces.

That is a great mold and will be the site of some great epoxy projects in the future. Like the tip of gluing your level onto the drill. Gonna try that myself.

@@TripleLRusticDesigns I notice you miss the connector for the track. The sander combined with the dust extractor is unreal, same goes for the plunge saw. You must get the dust extractor, i know it's expensive in the US compare to Europe but it is so good, turns on and off with the tool, just a joy to work with. Mold looks spiffy

Festool makes a way to join tracks together. It cost $54. Well worth it for the accuracy!

Well from a old worker in a shop in my past ! Looks strong just got to be careful when moving it around !! Just might need to make yourself a portable bass that would turn !! Around that would hold the load that you’re going to use with all the Apoxsee and whatever wood or pieces you put in here !! Yes you need support that’s a large frame so you gonna need to make a swivel base that you could permanently put that on something that you will be able to lift back-and-forth that will break the mold free of your material inside !!

Nice job. I would not have thought to use the threaded inserts. Good idea. I would have made a plywood box, and secured the hdpe to the inside of the box.

Thank you so much for this tutorial video. I used your model, but made it a bit beefier. I used 3/4" HDPE (very heavy} and incrementally bigger inserts and screws. I started with a 48" x 96" sheet and cut it down to 36" x 84". That gave me my sides and a few extra pieces to use as dividers to make smaller tables, etc. I plan on using Permatex RTV silicone gasket (like they do at Ahouni Artisans).

The mold looks great! It should make it easy to get the table tops out of the mold by unscrewing the screws to release it. Instead of gluing a level to your drill a drill guide would help you make straight holes. I can never get a straight hole by hand.

well done. the only thing different is that I would painter chalk. its cheap and very easy to use, instead of silicone. let it dry for 12-24 hrs and you're good to go

That's a mighty long side wall. You might want to do the same to the top of the side wall, long side, so you can use some wire and turn buckles so that when you pour inside the box that the top won't bow out.

It is quirky that simple jobs use a lot of repetitive simple motions that take a lot of time. But the result, well that was worth it. Well constructed, it should last and give you a lot of pours, enough to justify the cost and perhaps make a nice profit before having to be replaced or extensively repaired.

If you have any trouble with the threaded inserts backing out you may need to pull them out and add a dab of epoxy to the threads as a type of lock tight. I would think over time they may loosen up and back out when you go to pull your screws out.

Love the mold. Great job. Do think it would be better to put the sides on top of the base and screw from the bottom. If there is a leak it would easy to repair. Just a thought. Again great mold!!!

Thank you for the video, it was very informative. I personally am looking into a reusable mold to make floor tiles using my puzzles and memorabilia and need a larger mold. Thank you again. I do have one question about what type of saw blade was used and what type of drill bit ? I’m assuming it was some type of laminate cutting blade. I am no wood worker and probably know enough to be dangerous. LOL but you made it look very simple. Thank you again.

I love the fact while building your project that anything and everything gets knocked over, dented, don't always play out the way you thought that is reality. Do you have a video that shows that same 4 x 8 sheet as your base without keep on buy sheets, but being able to change the side walls to curved, straight, etc.

2 questions for you? 1) how stiff is HDPE and will it take the weight on the long side of will that weight break the mold? 2) can you put a clamp on top of the mold once filled to keep it straight and true? I was wondering if all that weight might cause the mold to deform once filled? Looks like it will be a BIG piece :)

The 8 ft side walls are very sturdy with the amount of screws I used. I can always put a clamp from side to side to hold the wall in if I need to. We will be removing the side walls after each pour to Demold the projects.

This looks awesome, great job curious how it handles when you carry it and if it turns and twists at all (possibly leading to eventually breaking the sides. I like the method you did as well. I might have added a couple bars on the bottom side that extend out, welded to the underside, so you could have handles to carry the mold or flip it over to get a piece of work out of the mold. I know its probably impossible to find , and possibly double the cost, but I personally might have tried to get a piece slightly bigger than 8' so I could make something 8' long. Probably not a huge demand for 8' slabs or tables being made like that at all.

Use hot glue instead of silicone to seal gaps. Cheap and will clean up easier

I would of did the same as you did that way after the epoxy sets up you can take apart to get it out. If you would have welded it you would have to flip the whole project upside down to get it out and it would have weighed a ton

I’m not sure the answer to that. It cuts fine with the Festool TS75 track saw. I don’t know how many teeth though.

You did just fine! Don’t attempt to weld that shit! We weld 1/8” and 3/16” PVC for exhaust ducting and I hate seeing the joint. We “heat bend” three of the duct sides and weld the open seam. On 1/2” thick you probably would have to do multiple passes and you’d be grumpy!

Thanks. The sides will be removed from the base every time a project is done. So we will reapply silicone to the crack every time.

To look for a RU-vid channel that does large pours, try ru-vid.com. They are a Canadian company that makes very large pours up to 4 inches deep. They have their own mix of epoxy that cures slowly, and they have made a cool table to keep the epoxy from heating up too much and cracking. They also use a sliding table type table saw to cut the edges of their panels. With the wedging these people have to do to release the finished epoxy from their mold, you probably will need a mold release agent on your mold to keep from splitting the plastic mold. Good luck on growing your shop.
