How to make a sandblasting box in less than 5 minutes

I used a rubber made container to make a sandblasting box.
I used a Rubbermaid container with a rubber gasket and clasps.
Large PVC connector.
Spray foam
Small furnace vent filters
And long rubber gloves. They don’t need to be as long as I used.
There are higher quality videos of the same thing but I had to do this fast and hey, my channel needs content. So here is my not pretty but effective version.

They're called a "closet flange"...as in "wash closet" aka toilet flange. It's used to mount the foot of a toilet bowl to the floor to make your waste water connection.

A little Monday morning quarterbacking for you a year later… If you if you have a heat gun, gently heat the area you’re going to drill or cut on the plastic tote & your knife will slice through it like butter.

Stupid simple and very effective. That's exactly what I was looking for. It's great because your box is only limited by the plastic container size you can find.

Yeah !!! Why not. As a proof of concept it does the job and if we need it more than we think or if it need more features or changes we can make anther one with confidence. Great video. Also nice to see the incidents when choosing the wrong tool for the jobs ... so we don't need to find out the hard way as well !!! Thanks!

Easy way to cut through thin plastic like that if you don't have a soldering iron: Mark your cut and then heat up a razor blade with a torch/lighter until it's red hot, you'll be able to cut through it like butter.

Another banger! Nice work sir. As you learned there's only one way to learn why you don't use drills or saws on that stuff. Ask me how I know. Also a couple things that will stick to that plastic are Gaffers Tape (like duct tape but it actually works) and that silver foil tape. The adhesive is crazy sticky, my dad calls it '100 Mile an Hour Tape'. Not ashamed to say we installed a windshield with it once. And since this is your channel and not mine I would like to say that I highly recommend this product for installing windshields.

Oh I have seen that silver tape. Yeah that is super strong!

tip to prevent hard plastic from breaking when drilling a large hole... Start with a small pilot hole using a very small drill bit.

I hard feel ya on the cracks. Tried to do something similar and cracked every hole I tried to drill. And that was in the summer!

I love this kind of thing. If you had put those pvc flange things so that they were sticking OUT of the box, you could have used hose clamps to just clamp them to the flange. That way, they are replaceable. Also, one of those silly Step-bit drill bits would have kept your box from cracking when you drilled it.

1:10 - I bet this wouldn't have happened in the summer. I learned that lesson a couple of winters ago when I ordered six cases of clear totes. Every sealed box had at least one shattered tote inside by the time UPS got them here. Thoroughly enjoying your channel, BTW.

I suffer everytime the plastic cracked on ya, I've destroyed so many things that way. But all that heartache was not wasted. Tip: Run the drill backwards, heat and friction makes super nice holes 👍

I'm thinking stretching glove over the flange inside the box, also maybe a heppa filter behind your main pre-filter, and gasket on lid, bolting flange for extra support? Don't you just love the "know-it-all" types critiqing your work -just think of it as being possibly constructive -take what you think is good and dam the torpedos. What is important is every red-blooded male needs a descent sandblaster and now you got one -nice!

@cocarr1 Год назад
I think a lot of comments are just personalizing and building upon what they see, more than critiquing. It's giving me a place to start! I'm thinking along the lines of your glove and flange idea. One could even use a flange on the inside and outside and bolt them together, or cut some flat stock into circles. There may be another plumbing product that would work, too.

Exactly. This saved me significant trial and error; not that I won't have plenty of that going forward. "Wisdom is learning from the mistakes of others"... I need something to handle larger items, but this shows the way!@@cocarr1

Nice! There are many other toilet closet flanges and rings one could use for making this. Rings inside could be used to bolt to the outside flange or vice versa. This video is giving me a great place to start on mine. Thank you #Lundgrenbronzestudios !

good vid buddy. perfect for small tools, i just inherited my great grands tools. can you reuse the sand?
@lundgrenbronzestudios
@lundgrenbronzestudios Год назад
You can. It stays in the bottom of the container and you can dump it back into your sand blaster. This set up works for a little bit of sandblasting. But eventually the plastic gets pretty abraded and cloudy.
