Build record of a 30" Patrol boat using foam board and household items. Complete build for about $100.00 USD. Please give me your e-mail address if you want a copy of the plan.
Good news!! I have found the plans! I will begin sending copies to all who have requested. This will take some time because there are Lots of back requests. Please be patient. I am only one person. Should you not get a copy in the next couple of weeks, please send me a note. Who knew this would be so popular? :-)
Very nice ! Lots of labor and a real nice boat. Did not know about this type of construction, it certainly gives me some ideas. Thanks for posting. Heck of a job. Looking forward to seeing it on the water.
Dude! thanks for passing along this knowledge. Ive been looking for a new hobby and your easy instructions made me want to try to build some cool RC boats. THANKS
Great job! After building a lot of planes from Depron with fuselage, not only profile ones, I'm beginning with boats and Depron is a real nice stuff, lightweight, more durable than most other foams and it takes no water what makes it perfect for seaplanes and even boats ;)
Thank you Francisco. She did turn out pretty nice. huh? I have used a really good sealing paint and applied many coats. I did use white glue thinned with water to apply to the foam edges. It gave a hard surface that sanded really well to give a smooth texture to the otherwise rough edge of the cut foam board. Going to check your tutorial now. :-)
I have to say that you did a great job here. The boat looks amazing. Maybe you made it look a bit too easy though? You defo know your hobby. Great to watch thanks.
Master! Congratulations my friend, you did an awesome job there. I never thought it was made of foam. greetings from Mexico. I like modelism, but ia haven´t made any interesting yet.
Not only a very good builder, but also a very helpfull person. Nice from you to send the plan to so many persons. Again, very nice boat you have builded. Mine it is ugly as hell but is doing the job :) (bait boat).
Well done and really a nice boat! Also your documentation of the building process is great! I enjoyed to watch it :-) Best wishes, Holger from Subwaterfilm
Hi Matthew just watched videos fantastic, i am just getting in to boat modeling and i know this video is a few years old but do you know were i could get the plans from for it many thanks Paul .
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I want to thank everyone for your wonderful comments. I have been overwhelmed with all the requests for the plan of this boat. Please be patient as I do my best to send to everyone who makes a request. If you have not received a plan or a reply, please send me another request and I'll do my best to get it to you ASAP.
Matthew Autenrieb hay I am just wondering if you got the design from a man called Roger foord as he made the exact boat out of wood about 14 years ago or so I never met him but he was my grandfather and it's siting in the loft with unfinished electronics o btw would you have any Idea how to make the electronics for a boat like the one in your video if so send me a email with a wiring diagram as I would really appreciate it. Btw my email is connor.foord @btinternet.com
Mathew, Loved the detailed video and the Who-Doggy sailing. I'd like to make the model and will do if you can send me the plans. Also, what materials are need to make her RC capable. Thanks, Geoff
Hi there was hoping to get the plans for the RC Boat here but also was curious what you used to seal the bottom of the boat and make it nice and glossy :)
I used a clear polyurethane spray paint. It is made by Plastidip. This is the same material that is used to form rubber like grips on the handles of tools like pliers and side cutters. 2 coats gave me a complete seal and a glossy shine.
DEAR Matthew Autenrieb PLEASE GIVE ME RC BOAT PLAN. I WANT TO TRY (RC BOAT BUILDING). MY EMAILI IS PHOEPYING@GMAIL.COM THANKS AND BESTREGARDS MYAT THU LIN
There are many ways to seal the hull. I used a spray on clear polyurethane paint. You can also use foam safe epoxy and some people like to use a slurry of white glue thinned with water. I find that spray on sealers are the easiest to use and give a good smooth coating. Always test your sealers and paints on a scrap piece of foam board before applying to your hull. Paints with a petroleum base will most likely eat the foam. I left the paper on my foam board and only needed to protect the exposed foam on the edges. The spray on poly works well, but the thinned white glue could be used for sealing the edges only. The paper protects the foam from most paints and will accept primer and finish coat directly. Applying the paint to the paper will raise the pulp and I recommend sanding with 400-600 grit sandpaper between coats to get a smooth finish. Remember to allow time for the sealer to dry completely before sanding. Hope this helps.
Hi Steven. I used Krylon ColorMaster spray paint for the light blue on the cabin. I used Krylon Indoor / Outdoor for the navy blue bottom. I sealed the foam with Minwax polyurethane clear gloss. The top coat clear (over the colors) is PlastiDip Glossifier made by Performix. I hope that helps. I like the Krylon products because I was spraying on the paper, NOT the foam. There are foam safe paints that can be used that are water based and have no petroleum distallates. The paints I used are NOT safe for bare foam. I also sealed the edges of the cut foamboard with diluted elmers white glue to keep the caustic paints from getting to the foam. e-mail me for details if you need them. Matt
Rex....I get my foam board from Walmart. Many places sell foam board in varying thicknesses and strength. I get the 5mm foam board from Walmart because it seems to be the most rigid. Dollar Tree also sells foam board, but the paper on theirs is thinner and the foam is less dense. Walmart price for a sheet 20"X30" is about $1.49 - 2.00 USD. Dollar Tree foam board is $1.00 a sheet. (same size)
Jeffrey, you need to draw the first half as shown on the plan. Then you need to turn the plan over and draw a second one next to the first. This is called "mirroring". You will need to make a "mirror" image of each of the bulkheads and the transom. Draw then together to make one piece. Thanks for the question. I also like to oversize the planking panels and trim the excess after it has been secured to the frame. This allows for a perfect fit and allows for minor imperfections to be compensated for within the frame. Good luck with your build.
Matt, I tried to cut out your plans, three times, but my hands and brain do not work well together. What would you charge me to cut out the parts and mail them to me? I would gladly pay for the materials, time, and postage. Patrick Allsteadt, Clarkston , MI
Pat Allsteadt Pat...I would need $12.00 for the foam board, $20.00 for the labor, and whatever the postage will be for shipping to you from central Florida. I am guessing that would probably be in the range of about $5-10.00 as I would need a 32" long box to put the parts in. I will also need a week to do the work. my e-mail is circuitfxr@yahoo.com. contact me there and we can come to an arrangement. Matt
Matt, Thank you for getting back to me. The price sounds fair for purchasing the foam board, cutting out the boat plans, and mailing the pieces back to me for assembly. Where do I send the empty shipping box and check for the services? I used a variety of paints for the different areas. The primer is a water based latex spray. The color coat is Rustoleum acrylics. The clear coat on the superstructure is a general purpose clear acrylic. the clear for the hull is a PolyUrathane clear made by PlastiDip. this is the same company that makes the liquid rubber dip for tool handles. I have found that using a high quality polyurethane clear coat as a sealer, over the primer, gives a good smooth base for the color coats. ALWAYS test your paint of choice on a scrap piece of foam board before using it. Some paints will eat the foam.
Thanks for all the comments and requests. I have been unavailable for the last year. I just started sending plans to those who made requests. I only went back one year. I am sorry if you did not get a copy of the plan. I have sent a total of 710 copies of this plan since the video was posted. I hope I got everyone. Please send me an e-mail to circuitfxr@yahoo.com if you have questions. Thanks again for watching and please share your finished creations. God bless. Matt
man I thought it was made out a mold thank u for the video I would like to make some boates for me but I don't know where to start if u can help me it would be great or sell me some plans thank u matthew
@@circuitfxr1 What batteries are you using in it? I tend to run heavier packs for my boat stuff if I can get away with it, just because pushing against water draws so much more power.
@@NikkiTheOtter I am using a standard 7.2v NiMh battery pack. A heavier battery would need a platform or support mechanism to avoid deforming the hull. Remember, this is foam board. Some people use lead acid batteries to give longer run time, but a good LiPo battery will do the same job and is much lighter. I am old school. The NiMh batteries are a good fit for me.
I downloaded the plans from a hobby website. I don't remember the name of the site, but if you give me your e-mail addy, I will send you a PDF of the plans.
Hi! This boat very nice. Good job it's my hobby too. I am from Albania. How can I find free downloadable model ships? Anyway if can send me a copy of this plan, and what glue is better to use,and about the paint too. I ask because here in my country does not exsist those materials. Thanks
***** Please look at RCGroups.com for downloadable plans. This is the world's largest and best rc forum in the world. Many excellent people there who will help and answer questions.
My apologies to all who are requesting the plans. I have misplaced the plans and am currently seeking through 1 terrabyte of files to find it. If and when I find the file I will begin sending it out. Thank you for your patience and understanding. These kind of things happen when upgrading your computer.
Thanks Al. I have a video of her running here on youtube. Just click on my name and then select videos. You will see a video named "Who-Doggy maiden voyage" That is the one. Enjoy and thanks for the compliment.
Matthew. Your build video would have been EXCELLENT....if not for the distracting background music. If you were to sell this boat....I would love to buy the plans for it. However, cut the music.....or add music that is soothing to the style of the beautiful boat you created. I hope you understand what I am saying. Great boat and video youtube presentation....but again.....take out the distracting music. If you add music....calm it down to match the beautiful calm spirit the boat has. :0) Just saying.
+Paul Randall “Randy” Hicks Thank you for your feedback. Due to the length of the video, I attempted to find uplifting music to avoid boredom and sleepiness. please feel free to mute the sound if you find it distracting.
Hello everyone. Thanks for all the nice comments. I have sent the plan to all persons from the past year. Please contact me if you were missed. circuitfxr@yahoo.com
I don't see why not. There are many people who have made an RC model of the Titanic. I'm sure the foam board would work for that as well. Try it and let us know!
