I enjoyed your tutorial and your blanket is beautiful! I have made several of these from Jenny Doan’s tutorial several years ago. It does seem a bit strange when sewing the backing/binding on. I always pin those corners and check to make sure I am sewing them correctly before cutting. I am always a bit leery of my own abilities! Your tutorials are always instructional and relaxing! Thanks!

This blanket is perfect and looks to be pretty quick. Not just for babies, but I intend to make one for my future grandbaby, but many women at work would love a little lap blanket for when the office gets cold. This would be perfect, and it wouldn't have to be flannel, would it? If you didn't use flannel, could you include a thin layer of batting and get the same results? I'm wondering if the batting would be cut the same size as the background fabric. I love watching your videos, Tammy. You are patience and explain everything. I never have questions at the end of your tutorials because you covered everything. I even believe that I can make the project and have it come out just like yours. I get pretty close. :-) Normally, I would get frantic about directions and how to stitch the project, but your demeanor is relaxing and so positive. Please don't stop making videos. I love every one of them. THANK YOU and a huge shout out to Shabby Fabrics!
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 месяцев назад
This is a perfect project! You can have any fabric you'd like and you can add in batting as long as the batting size doesn't exceed the size of the "front/top" fabric. We appreciate your support and happy that you enjoyed this tutorial! Thank you for your comment! 😊 - Abby

How do I identify flannel that can be safely used for babies?
@rampanttricky17
@rampanttricky17 5 месяцев назад
is your concern the "breathability" of the fabric used in the construction of an item-e.g.: blanket-to be left with a child who is not under the immediate supervision of a responsible/responsive adult?
@tonistevens2253
@tonistevens2253 5 месяцев назад
I am concerned about the caution on the end of bolts of faberic about flamability of flannel
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 месяцев назад
Hi Toni - for flannel & fabrics that are safe for sleepwear for children, you'll want to make sure that it's treated with that special fire retardant stuff. The cottons that we sell are not treated with that, so they would not be recommended for infant sleep wear. Hope this helps! -Michelle

What stitch length did you use?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 месяцев назад
We tend to use a shorter stitch length of a 2.0 for sewing our flannel patchwork due to the looser weave of the flannel. You'll want to use some scraps to test this out for yourself and your machine. Hope this helps! -Michelle

Voice-pitch: At the end of a sentence it's more pleasant for the pitch to dip down (as yours does). Today's trend is for the pitch to dip up. Your voice is calm & easy to listen to with clear instructions!

Dumb question… should I cut that salvage edge off of the backing fabric?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 месяцев назад
Yes, you should cut the selvage off the fabric before you attach it to the back as the weave at the selvage is tighter, so if you leave it on, it may cause some warping due to the weft difference. Hope this helps! -Michelle

How much larger do you cut your backing from the patchwork???
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 3 месяца назад
You can find the measurements we used for this project on our Free Download, here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/681 The key to making the self-binding work is to ensure that your front fabric is the same distance away from your backing fabric, on all 4 sides. For instance, you can do a 5" wider than the front fabric, on every side. Hope this helps! -Michelle
