The essential feature of any workshop (besides electrics and lighting) is the worksbench. This is the COVID CAVE take on a simple 2.4m long 1.2m wide table. Ignoring the circular saw mishap, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, ironically the hardest part about this was that I had to work off the ground/ladders - just goes to show how crucial a good work surface at the correct height really is! I'll be sharing the designs on Patreon for anyone who'd like to copy this and I'll explain why some of the decisions were made in regards to certain features.

I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great ru-vid.comUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.

For me, the ideas in ru-vid.comUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

Funny story about you putting the blade backwards, I worked with a guy that put the blade on backwards for 15 years….I told him our first day working together that his blade on the saw was backwards and he didn’t believe me. I had to convince all the other contractors to bring their saw over to show him how the blade goes. When he finally turned it around and made his first cut, the look on his face was priceless.

People do the same with angle grinder. Label side with metal plate around mounting hole must be on propelling ring not on the nut side. But they are impenitent and don't want understand why is it important.

Great Job! Sucks about the blade but we all have dough brained it at one time or another Unless you intend to break down the work bench in the future, you should put a little wood glue in the joints to add some rigidity. Also, you can get some 3/4 thread inserts for each foot, then add carriage head bolts in the bottom of each foot. Then, you will have leveling screws! I built -4- of these for our wood shop & they have never let me down. I did bolt mine together rather than nailing it, we ran 4,000 board feet a week across them :) Keep up the great work, I have been binge watching all your video's & needless to say, you know what you are doing!!

Good bit of wood working, your table design will be handy for me to build a leather working table, your table is large enough to shift those hides around. A tip for fitting a sawblade or cutting disc, if you can't read the text on it then it's fitted the wrong way round!, but similar happened me too! I was turning metal on my lathe and thought the bit I used was very shitty as it needed a lot of pressure to remove any material, until I discovered that I forgot to change rotation direction after cutting a bore which needs the lathe to turn the other way.

Total cost of materials? Wood, screws, paint, etc. I'm thinking about building a metal structure workbench with wooden top, it'll probably be a bit more expensive (may be not?) but quite more durable... And I can always put a new wooden top when it gets too worn out/ thrased, right?
@malenekoldborg

I dont agree. He built this with a chisel, a drill and a handsaw. To build it oit of metal, he would need a welder, helmet, sticks and a grinder. And metal isnt avaiable in bnq. Its way cheaper this way

At least using the handsaw means you didn't have to go to the gym (assuming they are open). Looking at the plane and how it was cutting it didn't look right. The blade looked sharp but it seemed to labour on just some pine. I would double check the sharpening angles; perhaps invest in a sharpening jig; I don't know many weekend warriors who can sharpen a plane blade by hand. The likes of Rob Cosman, Paul Sellers are doing it day in day out so have built up muscle memory in my 30 years of part time woodworking I still find it a challenge to get the grind even over the width and at the correct angle. Distractions are your worst enemy! As others have said I think I would add some cross bracing to give the workbench a bit more stiffness and vertical dog holes in the legs will make clamping bigger objects easier.

Brain Farts Happen! Buddy of mine spent a day trying to drill 1 inch holes through his floor joists to run an electrical wire. When I showed up he did nothing but bitch and complain about his piece of crap drill. I looked at it, put it in forward and it drilled great. We did put in a new bit as he pretty much burned the other one up. I have been in construction all my life doing mostly remodeling of old houses. I am 72 yrs old. Live in Northern Minnesota. I really enjoy your videos, I have cousins in the UK and if I ever get over there again, I would love to buy you and your helper a beer.

I've got a few places I try to get round regularly near home and I've done well out of one as they do shed clearances like a Record 4 1/2 plane for a fiver it cleaning up great or a hand router plane for 3 quid only needed a blade.

Keep doing what you are doing, it's good. The annotations and quirks you add to the video are entertaining, the pacing is great, you are choosing your content well. Good job all round. For anything that needs a proper sharpening rather than a touch up, sticking down medium grit wet & dry paper to a flat surface gets you flat, bevelled and square quickly, then go to a fine stone or diamond plate. Also, you can use MDF with metal polish for the final home, cheap and effective.
