Loaded question. Typically no down payment will be made to subs, and subs will be paid on net 30 terms from date GC receives invoice. Sometimes GC will pay subs on a "paid when paid" basis. When I receive a contract from a GC, I will read it and find the payment terms in the contract, then send an e-mail to the GC if I need different payment terms and negotiate that with them. Sometimes t=you can also "redline" the contract.... where you take a red pen and mark through what you disagree with and rewrite it at the end of the contract.... but that's a risky route to take.

@@martinlitwin307 Thank you I appreciate the information if you don’t mind me asking what would you recommend for someone who is barely starting to bid jobs and doesn’t have the biggest amount of capital for material etc. is there anyway you can ask the GC to pay for such material ? or is that something that will scare a GC away.
