Hi Friends, today I'm showing you how to turn our standard 1" graphic LCD display into a transparent LCD display. We'll discuss what you need to do, what to avoid, and how it looks in the end.
If you're wanting to try this hack at home, you'll probably want to start with a display with the breakout board: www.crystalfon...
** Remember, by doing this hack you're voiding the warranty. **
Also, be careful handling sharp objects as there is a potential for getting cut.

I wonder if this would work for eyes in a costume where you need to see through it. Not many great options I'm finding.

I think it could work for that, the visibility would be similar to sunglasses, so probably not ideal for wearing in the dark.

I have 4 questions. 1: does this work with every display 2: do you use a special polarizer? 3: does this display use color 4: do I see stuff on 5inch displays without a backlight It would be helpful to get an answer, since I want to use this in a costume and if I would need a backlight, I would need to build a custom one. Do you have any video on doing the same with an oled ssd1306 display?? Or, at least, the process could be the same 🤔

Is there a lcd that doesn't need the glass so it's more flexible? Great video, BTW!

Thank you! We're not aware of any that are transparent and flexible. LCDs in general always use glass for many reasons. The other options are OLED or ePaper, which we do have flexible versions of them, however they're not transparent. I'm curious what you'd like to see made with a flexible and transparent display?

I wonder if putting transparent LCD over keyboard keys backlighting would work for changing keyboard layout on the fly. Seems better than current e-ink based products

Alternatively you could use a small OLED display then you wouldn't need the backlight since they're emissive.

i wonder if you can bend it. it would be cool to put lcd panel over car light and put some cool ornaments there

These specific displays are glass, so I don't think bending would be an option here.

Was hoping to use this as a uv mask for circuit board fabrication, do you know if this is possible for larger displays and if so which model would you recommend?

It really depends on how they're built, some displays are much more difficult to remove the polarizers. I'll check with our engineering team and see if they know which larger ones may be easier to work with.

If you remove the polorizer entirely, you won't be able to see what's being displayed on the screen.

yes, it's relatively easy to remove the polarizer

it comes as a single working display, that you remove the poloarizer from and add one of your own, it does not come with additional polarizer.
