Bino, I just made my new lanyard. I have a saddle that is a year old which was made with Samson Predator 11.4mm rope on the lanyard with a poor man's ascender & a Fusion carabiner. I also have 2 climbing lines of the Samson Predator. My 2nd lanyard is an Oplux 8mm tactical that I only use when I was already @ the height I need to work @. On my new saddle it comes with only the Oplux with the poor man's ascender on it. I wanted to tie my climbing line into something like I had on the original saddle. This new lanyard attaches to the large loops on my new saddle great & I can tuck the Oplux away neatly. So there is a Petzyl oval carabiner on the 1 end of the rope & the Prusik which I didn't like using on my HitchClimber Eccentric. I bought a curved gate Petzyl & tied it onto the tail end of my rope as a stopper. I also was able to find an Ocean & HRC with the small sewn ends on them now to use with my HitchClimber Eccentric. Thanks for the video cuz I didn't want to use that Oplux as a bridge for my double rope climbing system. The Michoacon I have on the new lanyard works just like the sewn eye & eye on my original saddle which is tried & true. Thanks once again 👏

Thanks, really good point about being able to make up you own stuff. Customizing is where I’m headed so I’m trying to pick up new stuff. My goal is to come up with the perfect 2 in 1 that I can use when I’m leap frogging up. I may need to go with about 25-30’ length. My biggest issue has been a bi directional system. I tried an English prusik but it always gets too tight w/out a micro pulley. But when I use the micro pulley it’s no longer bidirectional...:/
@BinoH

I use a clip with a pulley and take the pulley of while doing two directions. I made a video named How to make an improved lanyard. I shows how I like to use it.
@dprevish100
@dprevish100 3 года назад
Yes, that is good...but my English prusik then gets too tight and freezes up so much. Maybe I’m using the wrong prusik cord. What would you recommend?
@BinoH
@BinoH 3 года назад
@@dprevish100 True the three wrap prussik can get tight. You mentioned that your lanyard is 30' long. It sounds like you might use almost like a secondary climbing system. Maybe make it one directional. for me when I use a 2 n1 it's more for holding me in place so the prussik won't freeze.

@@BinoH yeah I'm not scared of heights but if I start on smaller ones and work my way up eventually I should get there. Years ago I went up in a cherry picker and I was sweating like in a sauna. Now I can go in the biggest over 100 footer and it doesn't phase me, only for about 5 minutes. After that I'm jumping up and down and shaking the cage from side to side just to put more stress on me.lol. up 3 to 4 floors on commercial buildings and even straight up. You could make a 2 and 1 lanyard but with the Shizll and a one direction knot you can only tend in one direction. I have seen where a guy used 2 shizll's and 2 knots on a 2 and 1 lanyard. Myself I like to use a English Purssik and a removable micro pulley on a 2 and 1 lanyard.

Hey Bino, this is super helpful for those of us who would rather build our own rig. If you wanted to go even cheaper, could you simply secure the prussik straight to your harness with a carabiner for tending? I haven' tried it yet and I'm sure it's not as user friendly but saves the $60 for a shizll with gear everyone already has. Thoughts?

Just curious what your 2nd and 3rd choice termination knots would be after the double fishermans? Do you find the double fishermans vastly superior? Is the plastic thimble on the snap just to be friendlier to the rope? (any other purposes?) Thanks! Love how thorough your videos are!

My first is the: Double Fisherman's Bend, second, Anchor Hitch, and third, is Buntline hitch. The Double Fisherman's is the one I use most often, and yes, I feel it's more superior. Hi Bino- I had a question about the friction hitch adjuster on the lanyard. Is it OK to just leave it tied on the lanyard after each climb, or is it important to untie it from time to time (or maybe even every climb?) so that the points of contact change and it isn't always used/stressed in the same exact places? I'm newer to climbing and just curious about this detail. Thanks!
@BinoH
@BinoH 3 года назад
You should inspect it at the begining of each day you are going to use. You really do not need to take it off the lanyard hitch does not get the same kind of wear that your climbing hitch does (No long decents) less chances for damage. I hope this was helpful. Take care!

@BinoH
@BinoH 4 года назад
I'm not sure you might be able to go either way it's only 1/16" up or down. If it's smaller the rope might squeeze in and if it's larger when you tie the knot and put weight on it. It could expand into thimble. I guess it may depend on your rope if it has give or is is solid. The rope in this video is 11 mm and it fit in the 1/2" thimble.

If you are using a carabiner, it would be better to use an eye to eye. If you are using a clip with a solid eye you could use a loop. You want to have a rated prusik cord.

Dear bino I have a question about rope that it's must be a dynamic rope or it's must be static or low static rope Thanks a lot
@BinoH
@BinoH 2 года назад
You can make it with either but a static line is more stiff so the knots may be a little more difficult to tie.
