the 2 in 1 setup also looks like it would be really helpful for a removal when you're spiking up a tree for a removal and want to get to the top to secure a rigging point or tie in without cutting large branches well ascending. Yes you could just use your tie in rope on the way up but sometimes the branches obstructing your lanyard are small and not trustworthy to use as a tie in point. As always a really good informative video bino!

So, I had to ascend on a tree the other with no groundsmen to help. I needed to utilize my pole saw for part of the pruning and didn't want to go up and down just to fetch it. Instead I utilized one of the Carabiners attached to my 2 in 1 lanyard to bring up with me. And when I needed to use both side of the lanyard, I simply hung the pole saw with some spare chord. Also used the hook side of the blade to move around from one lead to another. Again, I appreciate your videos. They have opened up so much for me.

Just wondering if all harnesses are rated to take a load using one side attachment to a mid point? As opposed to side to side.
@BinoH
@BinoH 4 года назад
I can't speak on every saddle but on tree climbing saddles the mid points are rated for your full body weight. The side D ring are more likely rated for your full body weight but are not meant to hold and work with your full body weight. The side D rings are there to hold you in place. If you are asking can you work using a mid point and a side D ring yes but it would not be all that comfortable. What I am showing in the video is more for quick upward movement. the last set up I show with the two D rings and the center point are for stability and is okay to do. I also have my climbing line and the lanyard is just holding me in place.

You always have the rope wrench, what are your opinions on the the zigzag?(if you have used one)
@BinoH
@BinoH 4 года назад
I have only used the Zigzag a couple of times. I think it smooth but for me I didn't like that it's not mid line attachable. Even though I have learned and use the SRS system I still have old school in me so I like the Rope Wrench because you still use a friction hitch and it reminds me of Ddrt/MRS system.

Dear Mister Bino H., Not to be a "smart arse" but the prusik knot was reputedly created by Austrian Karl Prusik, in 1931, thus you might want to refer to it as the "Austrian knot" or some such thing. Also the knot that you have referred to as a "double fisherman" might more accurately be referred to as a "double overhand". Otherwise this video and the others I have watched are very well done. Sincerely Yours, Rodden McGowan, UIAGM/ACMG Mountain Guide
@BinoH
@BinoH 2 года назад
No you're not being a smart arse at all, I've heard that before and no disrespect to Mr. Prusik but here in American in the Tree Care Trade it's been known as the English Prusik. I couldn't tell you why, It may have been used in England a lot and when it came here it may have been introduced as English Prusik. Same with the Double Fisherman's, It has a few different names but here in the Tree Trade we know it as Double Fisherman's both have been published here in books related to tree care skills and knowledge. Take care!

I work in industrial rope access and I can't workout why tree climbers are so obsessed with the prusik knot to ascend trees, i'm not having a go at ya i'm just curious.
@BinoH
@BinoH 4 года назад
Do you mean vs another hitch or a mechanical ascender?
@zwigoma2
@zwigoma2 4 года назад
@@BinoH yeah like a shunt or any other Rope Grab Fall Arrest Ascender.
@BinoH
@BinoH 4 года назад
@@zwigoma2 I think that usually those type of devices are only meant to ascend and when you reach the top you have to switch over to a climbing system. When you ascend with a prussik hitch when you reach the top you're ready to work. Currently there are mechanical devices that allow you to ascend and descend - Roperunner- Akimbo- Zigzag with a Chicane, the thing is these cost $300.00 + and ascenders for your foot and knee a rope that you can use with ascenders. You can buy a french cord for as little as $18.00 a lot of the time climbers my have mutiple cords. Sometimes in tree care you have to trim trees with sticky sap and that can affect the the system you are using some mechanical system lock up. You can clean it and put it back on the rope but if the sap that is still on the rope that will cause it to lock up again. Sometimes with prussik cords you can change your cord out with another cord and it will work with sap on the line some cords are different diameter material and stiffness. A lot of tree care is quantity so it's best if you make it through a day without having to clean or buy new stuff.
