Simple video on how I made my trolling motor mount for a canoe. The design is easy and should work for any canoe that has a lip around the perimeter of the canoe. Thanks for watching.
I’ve watched several videos on making and installing trolling motor mounts on canoes. I like yours the best. Simple, and using hardwood like maple makes perfect sense. Thanks for posting this!
There are alot of diy ideas on you tube in how to build your own canoe trolling motor mount, which seem decent and simple enough, but I was wondering is there a specific reason as to why they are all made to mount off the side of the canoe rather than straight out the back of the canoe? Just easier to build or something to do with performance or something? Thanks
I can only speak for myself. The main reason why I put it off to the side is so that I can reach it easier. If it were directly off the back or even the front, it would be very difficult to reach it comfortably. There is no real effect on the performance of the canoe.
Why not put the wing nuts on top? And knurled plastic covered nuts would be easier to tighten although a little expensive. The mount is elegant in it’s simplicity and could easily be moved to another canoe.
Thanks for the feedback. The reason I put the wing nuts on top is that they could possibly be another thing to catch on a loose line. I agree it would be easier on top.
