In this video, I show you how I take a cheap engine stand and convert into a tube bender stand that can bend in the horizontal configuration as well as vertical depending on the situation. I specifically made this for my JD2 model 32 tube bender with the Swag Off Road ram mount conversion however this same concept can be apply to similar style tube benders.

Ratha I am that jealous of your drafting skills on solid works, I am a professional metal fabricator and I wish every day that I could draw as good as you on solid works! Well done and keep up the great content. Your channel is going to grow rapidly I can just see it! You should be extremely proud of your skills from drafting to laying a bead to operating and speaking in front of the camera. Thank you for you content :)

Wow Jacob: Thank you for taking the time to comment. This made my day! Maybe I’ll make some videos on demonstrating how to draft with Solidworks geared towards fabricators. If it’s gets enough interest I probably could show more people that side of things. Good to hear you love the content. I’ll do my best to make more videos.

@@westweld Fusion360 is awesome! I used it in the past for some client work that required it. I been a Solidworks user for almost 10+ years and for about 90% of stuff people are doing most CAD software today are more than capable. SW is just I would say "nice to have" not really necessary. By trade I'm a Mechanical Engineer and only prefer Solidworks bc that was just something I had learnt first. Therefore just more comfortable with it. AT the end the day its just personal preference.

Brother..... That's genius. I've been bending with a JD2 Hydraulic 32 for 10 plus years and often wondered if I wanted it out of the horizontal position. This is such a great idea to have both options. Big respect.

Cool modification, will be very useful. If I may offer an additional point. Looks like your top heavy. Some plate on the bottom. Added storage. Also locking casters are your good idea. Again nice job.
@RathaSochenda
@RathaSochenda 3 года назад
Thank you! Yeah I thought it would be top heavy at first but I figure an engine stand would be the perfect for this scenario as they are already design to take this sort of load in this config. Because the head of the stand now sits lower than stock bring closer to center of gravity it helps slightly more. Locking caster and adding storage at the base is next on the list as soon as I get more bending dies. Overall it feel pretty grounded and doesn't feel tippy when working on it or moving it but add the base and lock caster in the future will definitely help.

the clamp is part of swagoff road kit for the hydro conversion for the bender.

Thank you for the idea! Have a question on leveling the bender? Did you end up doing anything to fix the sloppy fit in the rotating assembly of the engine stand? Without addressing that I am having hard time keeping the bender level.
@RathaSochenda
@RathaSochenda Год назад
I would try drilling a hole through the non rotating part of the engine stand then weld on a nut. Then thread a bolt through and tighten to eliminate the slack.

Cool little project! If that tube bender has a set of dies, then maybe, as a next step, you could've created a mount for those dies on the stand itself, so it'll be completely self-contained

@@RathaSochenda Those are becoming harder and harder to find. I don't know if they discontinued these at HF or are just going thru a transition of some kind. I suggest if a person wants one and their local store has one in stock, better grab it. Our stores sold out with no plans of restocking in the foreseeable future. I happened to get the last one and wanted two.

Ratha: I also have a JD2 Model 32 tubing bender. I am working on building a stand that allows horizontal and vertical mode, but I am building it instead of using an existing engine stand. Now that you have had your design for a while, how has the vertical mode actually worked out in actual use? Have you bent much tubing in vertical mode? Thank you. DW
@RathaSochenda
@RathaSochenda Год назад
I use it now in vertical mode 💯 of time now. It’s so much more useful bc of my limited space in the garage and makes it easy for me to see the angle dial indicator. I only put in horizontal mode when I need to store it away. Hope that helps

A couple of things. First, Good video. Second, kudos for involving your Son, this is the sort of thing he will remember for a lifetime. Third thing is the cutoff wheel. I am a Certified Welding Inspector, and I have three customers that are missing all or part of their thumbs because they removed the guard with a cutoff wheel. Please, put the guard on. If for no other reason that your Son does not have to witness your thumb coming off. And it's hard to fabricate when you are missing your thumb! Cheers!
