Check out the new Diamond Mounter merch!
cbilton.creato... V-Claws are basically a flat corner claw for gemstones with a sharp corner. (princess cut, pear shape etc)
In this video I explain and show the methods used to create one.
More information can be given to guide you through fitting one to different types of collet and things to consider when using a V-claw for different cuts of stone. Its important to think ahead and understand whats involved for setting to ensure the stone is secure and the finished piece is strong looks its best.
... but that's another video coming in the future!
Thank you for watching I really hope the information in the video was of some use to you!
The channel has potential to grow in to a great archive of jewellers knowledge with your help.
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With over 2 decades of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level found in High Street jewellers workshops.
I have been lucky enough to have been taught by actual Bond Street shop model makers and my ambition is to share what I have learned through out my career to as many people as possible.
My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter RU-vid channel and now after nearly 1 year of uploading video guides, its time to take it up a level.
My ambition is to be able to make instructional videos with not just silver, but gold and platinum also. Some proper jewellers soldering equipment will enable me to create much more special pieces too! This will open up a whole new world of information I have to share.
There are many specific methods and techniques used for the different precious metals and knowledge about gemstones I can teach that will never enter my videos unless I am actually working with them.
If you may be interested in becoming a patron and supporting the channel to help it grow please click the link below to go to the Patreon website and find out about all the benefits that come with being a Diamond Mounter patron.
www.patreon.co...
There is now a new entry level tier which costs just £1 a month.
Its named the supporter tier which allows you to support the channel with out any substantial financial obligation. I will thank you personally on the next Diamond Mounter video uploaded!
I hope you will consider becoming a patron.
Thank you,
C.Bilton
With this channel I will share with you the methods and techniques I have learned over the previous 23 years as a professional Jeweller. I specialise in high end bespoke pieces made the old fashioned way by hand.
I wish to document everything I know and make accessible to everyone rare skills and techniques only usually taught in high security jewellers workshops.
Please hit like and subscribe to be notified of future uploads!

My thoughts exactly! Not to mention the fact that those are the types of people who complain about everything.

Yes I try to imagine what kind of video I would want to watch if I was learning to make jewellery. Id want to clearly see everything being done with constant explanations about the techniques and tools being used.

@@DiamondMounterExactly. I want to know everything about jewelry! It’s a time-consuming thing, and there’s a lot of stuff that can go wrong. I want to learn as if I was doing an apprenticeship and get to be privy to every single moment of the process.

Thank you for the great video. I don't mind your extra chatting, you have some great advice and ideas. If people are complaining about the length of your videos are they really trying to learn techniques? Thanks again

Can you help us with VSet claws in a Trillion setting? Their corners are so fragile...Thank you...I love both your work and the learning experience you offer us. Be well...(PS I have a large Trillion Brazilian Alexandrite to set, one for me and one for my Doctor in thanks.)
@DiamondMounter
@DiamondMounter 2 года назад
That sounds like an expensive stone! Use a burr to cut a small section out where the stones corner sits. Too risky to break if it touches metal

What about a scurf burr? It really takes the silver off pretty quick. Is that good or bad? Thanks.

So, it seems you do not quench your solders or annealing in water...? you always air cool? Why is that? or are you quenching and drying it all off camera?
@ruthdederich3622
@ruthdederich3622 Год назад
Do you always flux before you anneal? Thanks.
@DiamondMounter
@DiamondMounter Год назад
I just fluxed because the next step is to solder up the corner once its folded up. Ready to go. Doesn't need cleaning in acid then fluxing after annealing

I would say ignore people who keep demanding you make your videos shorter and shorter. As a society, we’re getting down to zero attention span with these short videos. I like the full instructional videos because it’s more like it would be if we were doing an apprenticeship, it’s real training like you’re standing there and being taught every aspect. There’s going to be some fiddly parts, some troubleshooting, things that go wrong, and you have to have someone there who can teach you how to deal with anything that could go wrong because that’s just real life. The problem I run in to is, say, I want to learn how to make a V-claw but the title of the video and the description is a full instructional on how to make a pear collet and the V-claw is just one aspect that isn’t mentioned in the keywords. That makes it harder for me to find specifics about which aspect I’m struggling with or want to know more about because the video is about making a pear claw, the V-claw is just part of it and isn’t the focus of the whole video. So me being on RU-vid trying to find specific answers and explanations, that makes it harder for me to find what I’m looking for because there are so many aspects of goldsmithing, I mean it’s a whole world unto itself; digging through looking for answers is really difficult and sometimes impossible just because of the keywords that are used. Anyway, love your videos, keep making them, include all the details and every aspect because those of us who really want to learn and who aren’t just watching it to satisfy some curiosity but are actually making things want the details! I also find it oddly comforting that you talk to your tools and yell at them when you can’t find stuff, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who does that.
