Making whirligigs is a very enjoyable activity, in this series of videos I will go through all the stages of making a whirligig. this video is an extra covering more of the characters.
That's another one with good brakes! Thanks for all these mate, they're really enjoyable to watch. I saved this one for settling down with a cuppa' this morning! Thanks again.
Hello , Love your videos . Will you tell me the length of the base for the wood pecker whirligig please , and could it be made any shorter .. Kind regards and thank you . Bill.
Thanks again Bill for your kind comments. The base on my woodpecker whirligig is 23 inches (58.5mm) but you can make it a lot shorter if you wish, in fact a shorter base would probably be better on this one. Try to make the characters (in this case the woodpecker) as large as possible, I find they look big in the workshop but once they are fitted up outside I always wish I had made them bigger, they show up a lot better. By the way you don't have to make the base long and thin like mine you could make it on a rectangular platform if you want. Regards John.
Hi, Could you offer some thoughts on how to obtain various patterns (dogs, cats, pics, people, etc.)? I can sand and paint, but I 'm not good at drawing figures..... Thanks!
hi I made a whirligig and painted it with oil paint, after 3 days its just as wet as it was when I painted it thing of wiping it off as its a mess thanks for your great videos graham
i know what you mean, that is why I normally use acyclic paint then varnish, the acyclic paints dry in a few mins on a warm day. The Varnish can take days to dry though. On cold damp days oil paint will take a long time to dry.
Thanks for the question. I own a British made Diamond and a Hegner, I recently did 2 videos on the diamond saw here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VzHRdhKWRig.html
@@scrimperuk Hello again In Australia we have a paint product called British paints 4 in 1 it primes, seals, u/coat, blocks stains. Just thought it might help sorry if you have to spend some money ha ! ha !
The figures can be any size you want them to be. in fact the bigger they are the better they look. When you are making them in the workshop they look fine but once you place them outside they look smaller, I always wish I had made them larger. In the case of the Blacksmith figure I made him about 8 inches (203mm) tall but in the next version I made him 10 inches (250mm) which I think was better. But generally the bigger they are the better they look.
@@scrimperuk Many thanks i have been making mine to small well its my first time making them after seeing your vids i am hooked on whirligigs any way happy new year and thanks paul
Thanks Paul, it's really nice to know that one of my videos has encouraged you to have a go at whirligigs. I don't accept any monetation (Google word for payments) for my videos, a comment such as yours makes my efforts worthwhile.
