Meu amigo de pescarias tinha o sonho de construir um barco para navegar pela costa do Brasil, deste o Chuí ao Oiapoque. Ele teimou e fez... me convidou para ir... Para mim faltou tempo. Certo dia eu o convidei para pescar - era o prefeito a nossa cidade - ele me disse>: saio já! Dois dias depois um exame médico. Câncer no pâncreas. 10 dias durou... e o Barco ficou... Cest la vie...

Hey Guys, would strips of old RUBBER inner tubes work as insulation to stop leaks between the boards as they are building them? Would the rubber hold up for years without rotting? All I am saying is that it is a cheap material to get at a junk/scrap yard/mechanic shop as they are thrown out after flat tires.
between two planks, the bark of the gelam tree is used as a caulking.. almost similar with traditional malay wooden boatbuilding in Terengganu, Malaysia

A maravilha da construção de barcas de madeiras, é uma arte para poucos mestres, parabéns, vejo que a madeira é de qualidade e fica uma pergunta, que madeira você usar para essa arte?
I already asked that question before, and it was surprising low at between $6-10,000.00 depending on a few variables. One being size of course and the other being the current exchange rate. I am an American who lives in Thailand. The Thais build boats in the exact same way and I began inquiring there, then started looking at Indonesia to buy the wood and import it to Thailand, in order to build my own boat. However,I found that it may be even cheaper to just fly from Thailand to Indonesia and contract a boat to be built. Then just take the boat back up to Thailand on the water. But of course I'm talking about a different kind of boat than the one in the video. I'm a 54 year old sailor and former boat builder. I want to build a 32-35' Sailing Catamaran to live-aboard and sail all around the S. Pacific Islands as my retirement plan. I knew long ago that I would never really retire from certain aspects of my life, boat building and sailing being two of those things...along with chasing the dream of freedom. So if a person were to be here, on this side of the planet and take an active role in the designing and the build, it could be done really pretty inexpensively. I'm actually considering getting into the business of designing and building sailing craft in Thailand using the local resources, and then potentially exporting them, or creating kits that could be purchased and built by the owner.
Wooden dowels with epoxy would be stronger than the steel rods & nuts. Especially your tropical hardwoods make excellent dowels. The steel rods will rust after time (even if the are galvanised) and then they will cause iron rot in the timbers. Wooden dowels would swell up with the salt water, and create an even stronger connection when they swell up. I drill holes and insert wooden dowels (australian hard woods) with epoxy. Once the epoxy cures you have the best connection possible.
