What room would you add a fun slat wall to?

I am not putting on a wall but I have a blinded door (doorway) that I’m going to use as shelves between two rooms. Instead of making a regular doorway I’m using slats as walls, ceiling and shelves. So thanks for the tips on your way of doing it.

It's been 3 weeks, did you tackle that accent wall? Did you buy a plainer and a table saw, plus the other miscellaneous powered tools for the job?

@@rickgeller6043 I actually did start and my wall is about 50% complete! It’s a very tedious job sanding, staining and sealing all the slats. I still have about 70 slats left to sand and stain and tack to the wall.

Savvy Street DIY’s Looks so easy on an edited video on RU-vid. Then reality sets in before you hit the halfway point. I agree this DIY project is tedious but your commitment to finish the wall has to tenacious. Think of how you will feel when you finish. The next project will be a snap. Good luck with your wall.

Did you bevel the baseboard at that outside corner on the right? I think I'll add a horizontal slat along the bottom like you did, but it needs to join nicely with the surrounding baseboards (I'll have two outside corners around mine).

My husband and I are doing this at the moment but having a really hard time keeping the wood straight we’re using a table saw as well. Think my slat wall dream won’t come true 😢

Is your table saw not cutting straight? You may have issues with your fence if you’re not getting straight cuts.

Love it! I want to do this for a gym/lounge adult area in a custom home so I really need to make it look good. I will be staining it vs painting it to keep the natural wood grain visible. Do you have any suggestions on what wood to use? I've never done one so I don't know if one type of wood might be better to work with than another. Thanks!

Hey. I build furniture and haven’t done this, but I might be able to help. In the video they use pine, and that’s fine because it was painted. Pine takes stainhorribly, they sell preconditioners to stain pine, but it’s not great with it either. If you are set on stain then oak is the way to go, cause it’s the cheapest wood that will work, however oak is quite beautiful really, as are all hardwooods, particularly after an oil finish. Other hardwoods (besides poplar which is green and ugly) are nice in color but very expensive unless you go with maple which is very white. If I were you I would skip the stain, and buy oak, also buy all hardwoods from a local hardwood dealer, it’s MUCH cheaper than your big box store. If you are set on stain I would still stick with oak. Hope that helps!
