Use the coke anode from AA/AAA batteries, crush the coke, mix with wood glue and a few drops of vinegar to make the paste.

Great video. I think you can paint metal mesh instead of using plain Pb plates. Also, adding some porous insulator in the mix will improve the contact surface even further.
