Why do I get the feeling this is more about designing a centerpiece then growing orchids? Driftwood from salt water needs to be soaked in fresh water to remove ALL salt. Before cutting on an orchid, you need to clean those shears with rubbing alcohol. DO NOT get water in or on the orchid crown.
@@SteveshappylittletreesWild orchids grow out horizontally from the tree so rain falls on the leaves but runs off and doesn't stay in the crown. A little extra, vital knowledge makes all the difference, doesn't it 😉
Sea salt IS bad for the plants. Make sure your drift wood has been cleaned. Also, the ferns will want A LOT more water than the orchids... Orchids do best when left alone. Very little water. Those arrangements are made to please the eye for people to buy, but do not last very long if treated the way she describes it....
Really???? Its more like dont use tap water as the chemicals kill it. They grow in trees in the tropics, and it rains like the bejeepers there, and they're outside!!! This comment is bullshit
isopath1 :) Phals grow upside down so water doesn’t collect in the crown in the wild. Instead, water drips down. In the position these orchids are mounted or when we pot them, water can collect in the centre so it is important to make sure you’re not getting that centre crown wet.
Gotta love those who think they know something but do no research then try to inform the educated while calling your attempt to inform others that are new to orchid care or just uninformed bullshit. While being rude at that! Ahh the internet! Although tap water can sometimes be to harsh for sensitive plants. I've found it to do no harm to my orchid but my moss is another story. I'm sure results vary due to tap water source, its quality, treatment facilities or lack of, residential filters, pollution and even weather. Then factors like individual plant health, as well as species, and origin as most life including plants adapt pretty easy to their environment both natural and artificial. So a plant collected from its natural environment vs. 1 that was nursery raised vs. propagated at home all may have slightly different needs based off what's available from the environment and adaptability. An Easy fix for the sensitive is dechlorinating the water by adding easy start for aquariums, allowing water to sit for 24hrs before watering or just a few hours in direct sunlight. All 3 remove the chlorine. Collecting rain water or using the water changes from aquarium maintenance work well too the ladder includes fertilizer. Also rainwater can be polluted to the point of being toxic as well although rare where I live it happens probably more than most realize. I only mention all this cause there seems to be at least 1 commenter lacking experience or reliable information.
I always wondered why people who knew everything were my students... Lol, now I wonder why they continue to watch educational videos and comment detailed statistics contrary to the video. Thank you for nice video...yeah that music is a hard sell... beautiful arrangement & your presentation made me watch it all... I’ll try this technique.
Hosing off the driftwood seams to do the trick but to be extra safe you can soak it in water for a few days changing the water once or twice. ~Roger's Gardens
That arrangement is not going to last long term. Sea salt is not good for the plants and simply misting the plants is not enough water. Ferns need a lot of water to be happy, otherwise the leaves will crisp up.
NefFy 0 seconds ago You should really be wrapping your roots with the moss on the inside and the dirt not touching. Orchids don’t like growing in soil-/it’s just going to start rotting away those roots faster. Actually you should just be using sphagnum moss. This looks really pretty but it is not really the best for growing an orchid it would probably die in someone’s house if they didn’t re-home the roots in some thing appropriate that wouldn’t suffocate and rot them. 🙄 😑 I love tutorials with Misinformation 🤦🏼♀️..,Oh duh silly me, you guys want more business I’ll shut up and people can just keep buying new ones every year 😆👍🏻
You should leave the tinker bell music off . I couldn’t keep up with the info with that playing in the background . Would have loved to stay and watched but the music is like listing to a nonstop barking dog . . I’ll find other videos without the music . Cheers
She has no idea how to care for orchids. You cut a very healthy roots, the buds won’t open. Do you have a picture of this orchid display 3 months later? Didn’t even disinfect the cutters. So sad that you shared this info.
