CORRECTION:
2:47 In fact, the WPA do have a recommendation for these liners in section 13 which advises that a strip should be installed, in either canvas or table cloth, and be installed to cover slate and timber edge when installing tables for tournament use. However, for home table installation you are (of course) free to choose whichever material you wish (especially as this factor has zero effect on play).
