Julia, kiddo, I can watch you fix anything! You’re the bright spot to my day! Sadly, I’m the only one in my family and friends who like fennel/tarragon!
Same here! I make a potato & fennel gratin that gets by, but it's full of Bechamel and Gruyere that mutes the fennel flavor, but any other form of fennel I'm on my own.
Fennel to Italians is like candy. Anise is a homey family tradition-rich flavor for us. Love the beautiful slaw salad and it’s healthy freshness. We also cook fennel. My grandma would sauté it with onion and garlic and EVOO with just a small amount of butter for richness. Add this over your favorite pasta with pasta water to loosen the sauce. Then when served she would wilt the fennel prawn over the pasta bowl. OMG. Was a favorite of mine! Great recipe! Thank you.
I made this tonight with pork steak and corn on the cob. I could eat it this salad every day for the rest of my life!!! I ran out of mayo so half mayo and half nonfat Greek yogurt. And I'm hypoglycemic so I used golden monk fruit instead of sugar. This was so delicious that I ate more after dinner instead of dessert! Thanks Julia!
@@fordhouse8b haha. No. But that doesn't mean it wasn't there. I just imagine me doing this and the image I see is me with shortened fingers or nothing chopped but the cutting board. XD
@@baluvideo The key to safely cutting fast is to have a very sharp knife and to curl your fingers so the the side of the knife is always in contact with your knuckles. And of course also a lot of practice. Onions and ripe tomatoes are excellent for practice.
@@smilingpuppetman9609 that could be taken a few ways and with my imagination, it could lead to a hot session of passionate love making😘😘😘😘😘... So baby boy, before you embark on that line of thought, BE WARY OF WHOM YOU ARE DEALING!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Exciting! I mostly eat fennel bulb stir-fried with potato and onion, so I've been trying to find ways I like it fresh. I recently tried a recipe for fresh fennel and orange salad, and I was just kind of underwhelmed. I'm allergic to apples; can you think of something that might be a suitable replacement? Maybe jicama for crunchiness? I've only had that once and don't remember what I tasted like. Maybe Asian pear would be better!
That salata is excellent, Julia. We all liked it a lot. I was surprised. I’ll be making that for everyone. As you said for get togethers Perfect just unusual enough. I had never heard of it!
Your salad combination is enticing especially your description as a palate cleanse. I will try to make this myself, I think it will be delicious no matter what I do.
Delicious! I ended up with a fennel bulb and didn’t know what to do with it. I’d never had it before. Fennel smells and tastes amazing. Question. What do I do with the leftover fennel leaves?
Julia, I love watching you cook. I am going to try this recipe. I am glad that you said that it could be scaled down as I will be making this for two. Thanks for the recipe!!
I made this last week. It was a hit! Thanks! I'm trying it again tonight, but I'm replacing the apple with some jicama that I have. It worked in my dinner prep taste-test. We'll see what the family thinks in a few.
