For me this was the best video I've seen yet. You made them fast, showed how to squeeze test better plus you left the recipe for others to try. Thank You for this. Going to try it today. Our business makes Soap but we thought we would take another step up and try something different for a change. 🌹👍🏻

I have to admit, Ms. Doherty, of all the Bath Bomb videos I watched, I found yours the absolute most helpful! I loved the way you presented your steps, and it was all very easy to follow. I found myself so entertained by your DIY instructions that I watched all of your videos, even for items I'm not looking into making. Thank you so much for such wonderful instructional videos! I will be subscribing and hope to see more!

I have never seen anyone make bath bombs and unmold them so fast like this. I am having such a hard time unmolding mine. These looked so easy. I'm going to have to try this recipe. I have been using SLSA for bubbles as well. I was just in awe of how easily these came unmolded.

Thanks, I think the secret is the rim on the bath bomb, when you put your finger in between the two layers, it just pops open :-). I thought of doing bubbles in my bombs, but I also make bubble bath bars and I just don't have any more room on my craft fair table for a new product, so I decided to just leave the two separate. I hope yours turn out wonderful!

Hi Karina, You can make bath bombs as colourful as Lush's, but I don't for fear of the very real likelihood of having a bright coloured ring around my tub. I tend to favour the softer colours and just avoid the mess of bright colourants.

@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Hi Stephanie, Thank you :-) - With mixing scents, honestly the sky is the limit, I recently mixed Lemon & Rose and it was really nice. Lavender & Lemon, Coconut Lime, Eucalyptus & Lime. Sandalwood & French Vanilla. I just use what I have on hand and most work out well, occasionally not so much. What you can do is put a drop of each scent you want to mix on a Q-tip and put it in a baggie and sniff it a little while later. If you like it, perfect, then its a 1 to 1 ratio. If you think it needs a bit more of this or that, try another q-tip with your adjustments and go from there. Definitely keep a notebook as it will otherwise all become a big jumble :-)

Where do you get the white clay? I'm having problems with my fizzies cracking while drying, I removed the epson salt when I made them. Which may have been bad on my part. I've used your technique with the epson salt and they did just fine. I'm just wondering where the white clay would be sense you said it makes it harden.

Aww, thanks - but for over a year I had an "epic fail" bucket in my house. All the bath bombs that cracked, warted, split, crumbled or just were an ugly colour went into it!! These days I feel like my recipe and I are friends and I don't put near as much into that bucket anymore.

I tried your exact recipe today only cut in half (seeing it's my first time trying this) and I had mixed results. 3 of the bombs stayed together in the ball form and then no more would adhere together. So I had to make 3 half round ones, does this mean that my mixture was too moist?
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Hi, for me that does mean they are a little bit moist. I find sometimes I have to stop and wash out my mold and then the bombs hold together again. Sometimes if my mixture is too moist I have to do that every 2 or 3 bath bombs. Also you can try taking your finger and wiping out the inside of your mold and if you feel a light coating stuck to the inside of the mold, then likely that could be the problem as the bomb mixture is sticking to it instead os sliding smoothly out of the mold. Giving the insides a quick wipe is a shortcut instead of washing them out.

rory ♥ Hi Rory, I honestly don' t advertise. I do sell at a few craft markets, but other than that I just sell to family and friends and some people at work. I made myself a facebook page because I love posting what I've made, but I don't have a bona fide website as of yet. I work full time and have 2 small boys and that all just doesn't give me room to be much bigger as a business. I really found word of mouth and what ever local craft fairs you can get yourself into will help your business grow. When you talk to people try and mention the things you are willing to do, ie; baby shower and wedding favours (whatever you are willing to try). You can let them know you can do different shapes (depending on what molds you have). That kind of thing always sparks peoples imagination. Good luck, I hope you do really well.

@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
I have always used the corn starch and white clay in my recipe, and its my understanding that both of these things will help make the bath bomb rock hard. Are you trying so far with just baking soda and citric acid? Sometimes when I add a bit too much moisture, my mix sticks to the inside of my mold. Try running your finger along the inside of the mold, if you can feel a residue coating it, try washing it out really quick and see if that helps. I remember once having to stop every 3rd bath bomb to wash it out. For me it was a combination of a little bit too much moisture and the baking soda I was using was "feed grade" from an feed store and that kind of baking soda is grainy and not soft and fluffy like the baking soda we get from the grocery store is. Good luck :-)

@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 4 года назад
Hi, they can crack for a few reasons, it could be that it just hit a really hard surface, it could also be that it was too moist when it was made as they crack to release the gas as they dry. Or it could be that they were not pressed together hard enough when they were made. On the bright side, none of these things should affect the bath bombs performance.

are these products not dangerous to bathe with ? just asking because a lot of those lush product suppose to all these organic ingredients to help your skin and such
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Hi Alex, Its good to be aware of what goes into your bath, and all ingredients present differently for different people. However, these ingredients I don't believe are dangerous. Citric acid is a bitter acid found naturally in many fruits. Here is a link for a dictionary description. dictionary.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AwrT6Vy8dMhUYt8A7DknnIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTBsOXB2YTRjBHNlYwNzYwRjb2xvA2dxMQR2dGlkAw--?p=citric%20acid&.sep=. Baking soda is a chemical salt with a lot of uses, and safe to eat. Epsom salts are made up of a naturally occurring mineral that are found in water. The official name seems to be magnesium sulfate, it is used in everything from muscle treatments (soaks in a bath) to gardening. Carn starch is just the starch from ground up corn. The biggest item in question could be the fragrance oil as all ingredients are said to be "skin safe" but the actual ingredients are allowed to be kept secret, so people have to research and decide if they are willing to use these man made scents. Here is a link better describing fragrances oil/perfume recipes and secrets surrounding them. teachsoap.com/2012/03/14/history-of-fragrance-oils/. Cheers, Jennifer

Hello Jennifer. Love your videos I am seriously considering making bath bombs for a new hobby...I've checked all your links in the comments for where to get the ingredients and supplies, which I am glad I did because I was going to buy essential oils for fragrances and see that it can be quite costly. My biggest question that I can think of right now is, which size mold is the bigger one you use? I see on the link that you can get different sizes and I want to make sure I get the right size, oh, and also, the clay, it is nessecary?, and does the clay make any kind of a sandy grit in the bathwater? Do you ever put any little treats in your bombs? Like sprinkles or sugar flowers?..I guess that was more then one question :D
@tammyhillier3665
@tammyhillier3665 9 лет назад
also, what size bottle of fragrance oil do you normally buy?
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Tammy Hillier Hi Tammy, because shipping to Canada is so crappy, I try to read a lot of the reviews to get an idea if it is something I would really like or can use a lot of and if it is, or if I already know I will like it, I order the 16 oz size. With every order I make though, I always try and add on some samples or 1 oz sizes of fragrances I am really curious about. There have been so many 1 oz ones that I am glad that I only bought the small ones. Sometimes buying a big bottle "Blind" bites me in the butt too. I would really recommend getting what you love in the size you think you can use up :-)

Jennifer Doherty Thank you for the reply Jennifer, I'm so interested in this whole homemade LUSH products idea and your videos. I did notice in my research that some of the LUSH bath bombs froth and foam whereas others just "fizz" and I figured out it is because in their Frothing and foaming bombs they add SLSA Soduim Lauryl Sulphoacetate, forgive me if I spelled that wrong. Now, I noticed in your Bubble Bar video, which by the way I also love...you used the SLSA, we're both Canadians, and I have no idea where to buy it locally, so I'm wondering where you get your SLSA at a decent and fair price online of course if you buy your supplies online.. I would love to just jump into making everything but I know it's going to be costly buying some of the supplies to get started, I basically have nothing yet, no butters, colors, salts, nothing...so I'm now researching on where to get everything in a bulk size for a fair price. Thank you again!!!
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Tammy Hillier , Hi Tammy, Whenever I have family going tot he States, I buy my SLSA from www.saveoncitric.com and have it shipped tot heir hotel (most hotels will hold it for up to 30 days before arrival). If that doesn't work, I order it from suds and scents in Abbotsford www.sudsandscents.com/. It is the most expensive ingredient in your bubble bath bars. The next most expensive ingredient is the cream of tartar and you can get it at your local bulk barn. You can buy it in larger quantities, just call and ask them for prices, they are pretty good. Shopping for supplies can make you crazy as you will find some suppliers have this, others have that, or some shipping is great and others crappy LOL, good luck. If I can help point you in any direction, let me know :-) If your not a member already, you should join a few groups, one is called the soapers lounge, the other is called shout out to melt & pour and the third is called The bath and body lounge

Where did you get the white clay from?
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Hi Perla, this clay is called white clay or kaolin clay and I started out getting mine at a health food store. There are all kinds of clay, its really a personal preference. If you go to a health food store, chat with them about they clays they carry, I found the staff really helpful at mine

I buy them from New Directions aromatics, Voyager soap and candle, wholesale supplies plus, Natures garden, Suds and scents - there are a lot of Soap supply companies out there that you can google and choose from :-)

Do you have a good and easy soap recipe I can have please
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Susan, I don't really. Cold process and hot process are still so new that I haven't found a recipe that I love and want to stick to yet. Peek around on here though, there are plenty of women who make lovely soap that are willing to share their recipes. :-)

Does the food coloring stain a white tub?
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
Hi Melanie, It can definitely colour your tub if you use too much. Try and add a little at a time until you get the shade you are looking for. If your not sure if you have used to much or not, test it out in your tub and see if it sticks :-)

Thank you for your reply. Your bombs look perfect.

can't you just use soap coloring so it won't stain the tub? How come you don't put an oil or something in it so it makes your skin soft?

I prefer the simple bath bombs. You can definitely design your own recipe with whichever additives you choose, to have whatever desired effect your looking for though.

Hi Where do you get your fragrance oil
@craftyphases9556
@craftyphases9556 9 лет назад
perla rodriguez Hi Perla, I usually get this particular fragrance oil from Suds and Scents in BC, Canada or Natures Garden in the U.S. If you are looking for a variety of fragrances, just Google "Soap making supplies" or "Fragrance oils for soap". They should come up with a lot of options.

@craftyphases9556

EdnaBlossomss Hi, There are no real raspberries but it is in the Fragrance oil. Black Raspberry Vanilla is not really a raspberry fragrance, but more of a sweet fruity one. Its super popular. :-)

The colouring was definitely a learning curve, I was worried I turned my son into Smurf once, there was so much blue. These ones were fine, no rings around the rub.
