DO NOT use the doubler in Ample Metal Hellrazer. It isn't true doubling, it's the Haas effect - it will wreck the guitars if someone plays the song out of a phone etc. As far as I can tell, though many of Ample's guitars are advertised as having real non-Haas doubling, including Hellrazer, that is a lie outside of, I believe, some of their newer acoustics. (I haven't tried all their products.) It's pretty annoying false advertising. If you need double tracking, you'll unfortunately simply need a different guitar library. I recommend Odin II; it comes with double tracked options, as well as both individual single tracks if you want to do it manually. Or, maybe if you play around with the velocity layers so you're only playing samples 1-4 on one instance and 5-8 on another instance (made up example numbers), you could double track Hellrazer with two mono instances. I've never tried this out though. As long as you're going through high gain amps, the different velocity layers should sound pretty much the same. Trust me, you don't want to figure this out later. I'm working on an album featuring heavy use of Ample guitars and when I found out I needed to go back through all my mixes, disable the doubling on whichever guitar I was using, and bring in a second one of their guitar VSTs and tweak all the settings to be identical and mess around with the mix now that I was dealing with the actual sound I would be hearing, I about binned the project in anger. It was especially upsetting for the project files using Hellrazer, as there IS no alternative for it for the second channel - they have a lot of six-string electrics you can double track with each other, but only one Hellrazer.

@@pnksounds real doubling in vst guitar would require a secondary set of samples to play one in each ear. (this is what odin ii does.) unfortunately, i doubt a company that has already advertised haas effect doubling as true doubling, and made undoubtedly tons of money off people buying those products, would do all that for an almost four year old instrument just because they got an email :/

also if u don't have the means to get a different plugin, doin it manually (with a slight detune or different tone settings in each channel) is tiring but really good as it allows u to have control over what notes are playin on the left and right

You can record the second tracck shifted 1 semitone off (on piano roll) and then shift the audio track back with pitch shifter

Mick Gordon mentioned in his GDC talk that, because it fit the game so well, he managed to get the brief changed by convincing Bethesda and id that Guitars were a near-requirement for the music to do what they wanted it to. He even used a 9 string which was given to him by one of the guitarists from Meshuggah (I could be wrong about that last part, but it has been very heavily implied a number of times).
@davidzaydullin
@davidzaydullin 5 месяцев назад
btw he actually didnt use any guiatars in some of his songs. cultist base uses synth for example
@x87Go
@x87Go 5 месяцев назад
Its actually the other way around. Mick thought that a 9 string had such a low use case, that he gifted it to one of meshuggah's guitarists. Even then, meshuggah's guitarist couldnt find a use for it.

BRO THIS IS EPIC i loved it one question: i have a hard time making good riffs, how was your process to write yours? like, wjat scales and chord progressions did you use? thanks for the tutorial btw, love it!
@klaw1
@klaw1 5 месяцев назад
Metal has a lower than average musicality, but higher than average playfulness to it. The first means that the demand for a long/complex chord progression(or for a chord progression at all in some extreme cases or in some parts of the song) is extremely diminished. You can just hang around less notes and not really bother with trying to musically define your harmony(aka not convey a lot of info on what chord is currently playing, for example playing notes A and G# for two bars each could suggest a variety of chord progressions like A-G#, Am-G#, Am-G#m, A-Fm, Am-Fm, A-E, Am-E etc). The second means that metal riffs should be written less as a piece pf music and more as a "look at this sick sequence", where it doesn't really matter what is this a sequence of. It could be some "call and response" between a lowest note on the guitar and a sound of scratching your pick against the strings, or a sequence like "imma play this sad phrase and follow it up with this cool arpeggio", just being playful in what the science of music offers you. Another thing is rythm, but there isn't really any meaningful AND universal advice here, I've heard riffs that are just four on the floor, triplets all across or a genuine mess, but the whole aspect of rythm really should be given a heavy chunk of your attention(also don't forget about the note lengths, getting them right makes a HUGE difference, you can vary the mood of the riff just by deciding to play legato or staccato). Of course, all pf these thing depend on the sub-genre of metal you're going for, some demand more musicality and some are just straight up alien noises, and there is a lot of playful experimentation to be done which is both fun and boring. I would suggest for you to listen to some sub-genres that you listen to and some that you dismiss, taking notes about what you like about the riffs and literally stealing those little ideas, building your musical vocabulary bit by bit, developing your own habits and methodology. Also studying music theory and playing with newfound knowledge helps a lot. Sorry if it's too much and let me know if you had any success applying all these things. Thanks a lot.

@@klaw1 I’ll wait for your album as long as it takes, so do your magic, the main thing is the quality of the album (your style is simply gorgeous, I released a jazz lo-fi album and listened to similar music for about a year. Now I’m just tired of this style of music and got hooked on edm, breakcore and house, you have the intersection of everything that I love in electronic music, literally the ost of ultrakill but even better and higher quality)❤️ короче реально красавчик/талант

is there any free guitar vst that is similar to the one that you use?
@klaw1
@klaw1 5 месяцев назад
I'm not sure, but you can try searching for serum/harmor/sytrus "electric guitar" preset that sounds at least a bit like an electric guitar with no amp(a clean tone), putting it through any free guitar amp vst and seing how it goes. An electric guitar can be substituted when achieving heaviness in your track, for example my "Inspired by Mick Gordon" video mainly uses a synth

I don’t see the name of this music making daw below title?? Every time I watch one of these there’s no name of software. I have garage band it’s NOTHING compared to music studio like audio tool. The sounds are already made, it doesn’t give automation with graph twist (whiteline in graph) jagged triangle whatever works, create growls from basic kick drum. Sounds good but the pitch doesn’t match song key. I could never find it. Use piano roll synth find thick hard rubber synth what ever note the song is in. Hit piano keys until you find it, world of difference. I wish I knew what software this is? Do you mention in the video? .
@dule404
@dule404 5 месяцев назад
It's FL Studio 21. I agree, not enough creators put the name of the software (because it is very obvious to producers, but i get why you wouldn't know, if you use garageband). When I first started out i didn't know what the name was either so I had to ask my producer friend
