one cabbage
half a cup of sunflower oil

three or four pinches of salt
half a handful of caraway seeds
How to do:
slice the cabbage into thin slices
mix the ingredients for the dressing and mix it amongst the cabbage.
Leave the salad alone for at least a couple of hours before you eat it. It gets better, when the aromas have a little time to get into the cabbage.

Thanks for the recipes, they are simple and sound to be tasty. Dinner today is going to be exactly the same with the dumplins, pork, and the kraut, I was inspired by your attitude, the way you talk and move, because you reminded me of someone I met near Swetzingen back in the 70s that I should have never lost communication with.

My mom used to make this salad all the time. It was my favorite salad. She was born in Nuremberg. A lot of what you make, I grew up on while in Texas. Thank you for making these videos.

My 'Nanny' was German and she used to make her famous Cole Claw for the family on holidays.. but she did not have a machine to do all her slicing .. she was in her 80's and would slice 4 large heads of cabbage by hand.. arthritis and all! They don't make them like her anymore! She will be missed but whenever I TRY to make her recipe (it never comes out as good) it does bring back fond memories and a big smile. :)

I'm from the mountains of East Tennessee, USA. I've always liked kraut since I was a kid. I like to cook it with Polish or Kielbasa sausage. I serve it with beans, cornbread, fried potatoes, and some types of greens, like collard or mustard. That's what a lot of people around here eat--good country cooking.

Thanks for your videos. But I guess it is like so many things, what you are used to makes a big difference. BTW bad to say, "...you'll like it because I like it." Not a good reason. I watched all three videos and the only the pork roast was to my liking. I prefer more spice and "flavor" in my food. But as I said before thanks for the videos, it's nice to try something different and see what other people like.

Looks like caraway seeds in the ingredient list. It's used a lot in German cooking. I don't think cumin would go to well in this dish.

If you can't find caraway/kummel,celery seed works well.

Brrrr ... so I would never make a coleslaw. too much balsamic and definitely not oil. I take finely chopped cabbage and a julienne sliced carrot and knead vigorously with a tablespoon of salt for 15 minutes. then add some white wine vinegar, pepper, sugar and caraway to taste.

For everyone’s info, calling a German a “Kraut” is a derogatory name for a German national and incredibly rude! I am German and feel offended calling me that name. So don’t call anyone that if you visit Germany, because you might get a reaction that you might not like! Just saying.😠
