How to Make COCONUT OIL | Traditional Method

In this video, Mommy shares how to make traditional Cold-Pressed, Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil and Pure Coconut Oil. It was a team effort- Narie husked some coconuts and Uncle Mukesh husked, cracked and grinded most of the coconuts. I hope this video is helpful to you!
Mom mentioned that if the oil is made during full moon, the yield is greater. What are your thoughts on this? I haven't tested out the theory yet, but I will in the future. It's also dependent on the type of coconut and how mature it is. We only got 1 1/2 cups of oil from approximately 15 coconuts.
🗒You will need:
🥥10-15 Dry or Mature Coconuts
🥥A Coconut Mill or Grinder (a grater or blender can also be used).
We bought this mill at Fair and Square in Chaguanas, and it can also be found on Amazon (amzn.to/2NPEQCo)
🥥About 10-12 cups of water (or enough to make and extract the milk)

A big thank you to your mom for demonstrating how to make coconut oil! The old fashioned way is the best way to go most of the time. My grandmother says when she was younger in Guyana and her father and uncles picked coconuts, they would come home with over 50 coconuts and the whole day would be spent making coconut oil. They did it similar to your mom as well, by letting the milk sit before boiling it. Such a process but definitely a labor of love. I have so much appreciation for this video. Thanks for sharing Reshmi!

Agreed! It was definitely a labor of love. Lots of hands went into the making of this oil. Mom learned this from seeing her parents and grandparents and she wanted to share it. Glad you appreciate the video! Thank you for watching!

Amazing video. I and my wife use this method too and is motivating to see mommy doing this. It will encourage us on our journey to traditionally produce coconut oil for commercial purposes. Again your mother is a virtious woman who understands tradition. Standing when the funeral passed for last respect and the roasting of the potatoes made me even love your video more. I am proud of you all and I pray for more strength and inspiration.

Hi Resh and family, I used to make coconut oil this way, years ago as a teenager. My grandfather taught me and we used it for our skin and hair. I don't make it anymore because it's a lot of work. Thank you, your mom, your brother and uncle for sharing how they do it.

That's a lot of coconut left in the shells using that mill. It's better to dig out the coconut from the shells and grater them or blend them. Plus there are ppl out there that can make you a coconut grating mill that is much faster and you don't waste any coconut. In St. Vincent we don't waste coconut at all.
