These were Fighting Conchs harvested from the west coast of Florida. Normally after a few strong cold fronts in winter, plus having some super low tide from the full/new moon, we get these washed up along the beaches from time to time. But Last year was the most I’ve seen.
This is normally as big as Fighting Conchs get, they don’t grow to the size of a Queen Conch. And because of their size, I think most people just ignore them. It’s a lot of work for the food but if you like conch, these are a great alternative. Its not bad at all. You can also substitute shrimp, crab, lobster, or abalone for this salad.

Hey Sushi Everyday, I think it was on Mad Beach a few years back, a guy was harvesting them in the Gulf, back then I didn't know if I liked conch, but I do like it after all. Do you know if they can be harvested in the warmer season? I would love to get some. Do you know the best place to get them, and what beach was this from? I'm closer to Honeymoon Island. TIA

Hey James, this was during winter after a couple of strong cold fronts. They normally are in too deep of water to target, so without the strong storms, they don't make it on shore without the waves. Check out the newspaper article link. This was on St. Petersburg beach, around Pass a Grille. GL

@aryanprivilege9651
@aryanprivilege9651 3 года назад
He doesn’t answer Latin binomial nomenclature, died of red tide and pollution cone shell, nah. Good question should include because don’t know which can be eaten only see fighting, few other ones.

Those are florida fighting conch, not queen conch. Florida fighting conch grow to a maximum of 3 inches. Queen Conch grow up to 12 or 13 inches. Hope I helped.
