These were Fighting Conchs harvested from the west coast of Florida. Normally after a few strong cold fronts in winter, plus having some super low tide from the full/new moon, we get these washed up along the beaches from time to time. But Last year was the most I’ve seen.
This is normally as big as Fighting Conchs get, they don’t grow to the size of a Queen Conch. And because of their size, I think most people just ignore them. It’s a lot of work for the food but if you like conch, these are a great alternative. Its not bad at all. You can also substitute shrimp, crab, lobster, or abalone for this salad.
