Yeah, the trees is a shitty solution, and Carbon cure is crap as well. So tree's aren't the worst solution because they're better than nothing, but trees only temporarily store the carbon. Then they die, and the carbon is returned as CO2 and methane. Decomposers will do that on their own. The problem is that we are adding CO2 that hasn't been in the atmosphere for hundreds of millions of years, which means we have to remove it perminently from the atmosphere. Carbon Cure is literal crap. What they are basically promising is 'we are going to use setting concrete as a place to entrap CO2 produced in the process. So CO2 lithification only happens under incredible pressure. In low pressure, the CO2 would simply bleed out of the concrete, solving nothing. But hey, it sure sounds catchy! You want to actually remove the CO2? Capture it as it's produced and bubble it through water. That will form carbonic acid; the exact same thing we're doing to our oceans. Then you react that carbonic acid with two parts sodium hydroxide. Evaporate the water solvent and you're left with sodium carbonate. It's stable below 80C, so it won't readily decompose back to carbon dioxide, and it's pretty non-toxic. Then it's a question of what you do with this waste.

It's a bullshit idea. "We use tech to get rid of the CO2." That doesn't explain how he is physically preventing the CO2 from entering the atmosphere. It's buzz words. Does he pump it into the ground? Well, there's problems with that. How deep is he pumping? What kind of strata is he pumping it into. Can the CO2 leak. If he's reacting it with a chemical, which one, how much, and what do they do with the byproduct? If you can't answer these questions, you're not actually doing anything with the carbon in any way. You're spilling out buzz words that assure you, somehow, the CO2 is being removed.
David13ushey I think what they mean is that they’re not burning as much fuel to extract the primary components of concrete because they’re not using it in this version. They’re not getting rid of CO2, they’re just not releasing as much.

@Marcos Filho First of all, fusion energy won't be available to us until at least 50 years from now, secondly, you can't send something into orbit using a electromagnetic cannon on the ground because of three reasons : The atmosphere which would completely destroy your shipment because of heating Orbital dynamics which say that your shipment will only do one orbit around the earth and then come back to where it came from (aka the ground). And last but certainly not least, the mind-bogglingly high acceleration at liftoff would obliterate any sensitive equipment you have on board ( let alone humans ). Then you talk on how quantum mechanics could help us travel and transmite data faster than light. Well that I'm afraid is not possible because quantum superposition can indeed "teleport" a particule faster than light but it is a completely random choice so if you were to be able to put someone in multiple states then when you were to open the box in order to make him interfere and know were he went, ther would be an equal distribution of the particules he is made from on all the locations he had a chance to be in (aka he would be dead). Same for information, you can't carry information with quantum superposition because of the randomness of it. Then you talk about quantum computing, well there is a lot of noise around quantum computers but the truth is, very few know what they are talking about. Quantum computers are very effective on certain types of operations, specifically those were you need to do operations in parallel. But on most other operations, they aren't much better than classical computers, so it will revolutionise some areas like chemistry or pharmacology but your regular computer won't be a quantum computer because it would not be as good as your current computer !
Using hemp strands to help as a bonding agent will be a great reinforcement. Our company has created a appliable skin to use as a waterproofer which increases the life span of the brick or concrete indefinately if applied aging and agin. For canadian clinates it prevents water from working its way into the seams and provides a uv barrier to prevent deterioration due to the elements.
They haven't done anything new tho, the CO2 you bake out of limestone to make cement gets absorbed again as it sets, it's already carbon neutral, minus the energy spent to bake the limestone. This is a scam

@@catherinechen1639 as far as just the concrete is concerned it is mostly carbon neutral, calcium carbonate(limestone) is baked to reduce it to calcium oxide(quicklime) which can be "slaked" in water to produce calcium hydroxide (slaked lime, or just lime), when slaked lime is mixed with water and sand it can be left to set into concrete, it then absorbs just as much co2 that was baked out of it to become calcium carbonate again, i was talking about just the carbonate cycle being neutral - digging out the limestone and processing it costs fuel and effort. Sorry for long post hah

They haven't told you how they do it. They said 'We use our technology with plants to prevent the release of CO2.' No where do they say how they do it. Is it being physically injected into the ground or is it being chemically entrapped in a non greenhouse gas compound. Both of THOSE have problems too. And without a carbon tax, it's economically non-competative.
I would love to see an update on this. Has the industry adopted this new technology? They claim the concrete is not only more environmentally friendly but also "stronger"? If those are both true then i really want to see the good results, we all need some positive reinforcement :)

Concrete is calcium oxide, which is produced by heating limestone up in a kiln. Limestone is calcium carbonate, and when heated, releases one part calcium oxide (lime) and one part CO2. That's why concrete is a CO2 generator. It's taking carbon dioxide in rocks and releasing it. You can get rid of the CO2 by converting it into carbonic acid and then neutralizing that acid with sodium hydroxide. This would turn it into sodium carbonate, which could then be disposed of or recycled for glass production.

Here is a story on how to make concrete more green than using CO2: As a civil engineer, this is something I feel extremely strongly about. Silica fly ash is a byproduct of coal power generation, that gets collected by coal scrubbers. When the Obama Era clean coal technologies came into play early in the first administration, Silica Fly ash was an extremely cheap, efficient, and green, replacement for cement in concrete mix designs. Some mix designs would reduce 50 lbs of cement for every 25 lbs of fly ash used. Fly ash would produce the same or greater strength concrete as cement, but with better flow properties, and faster set times after pour. Fly ash reduced concrete costs across the board by 25% during this time, it was an awesome example of how green technology gave a booster shot to a whole host of different industries. It got to the point where the coal power plants couldn't supply enough fly ash for the demand of the concrete materials industry. It was a huge win for the environment and the economy. Then the EPA got a little overzealous, classified fly ash as a hazardous material, making it extremely difficult to haul on the roads or to store at cement plants. The coal power plants had to resort to storing the ash in coal ash ponds, because it became near impossible to transport offsite. A lot of these ponds were hastily and poorly constructed, or not constructed large enough (usually because there is not enough room onsite at the coal plant, groundwater is shallow, etc.) for the fly ash produced by a coal plant. Nearly every time a 50 year storm comes through there are still to this day multiple failures where, similar to the levees during Katrina, the fly ash will escape containment, and overflow into the natural water supply/reservoirs/rivers/lakes and contaminate/kill everything it touches along the way. With the coal scrubber technology, they accidentally started a great system that was beneficial for a lot of different industries, then destroyed any progress they made with too stringent rules for the transport, creating even worse environmental problems than what they set out to solve.
Find a desert. Mine under it for gravel. Make a cactus farm there. Have a mega blast chamber in said desert. There. Tons of green concrete being green in the footprint of a biome. Also, for bonus points, make a mob farm for bonemeal so you can make 2 shades of green.
Thank you for showcasing this great idea to inject CO2 back inside concrete to repurpose it. So let's hurry and tax all non-compliant concrete plants to help build cleaner solution 👍
Ever since seeing Bill Gates on 60 Minutes promoting this idea, I cant get it out of my head. I literally think about each time I see a concrete pour. What a great idea to help save earth.
There are alternatives.. that are proven to cut down Carbon Emissions. I'm proud to say I had the pleasure working on this video as a P.A. The interviews were filmed at Carbon Cure in Burnside Dartmouth NS Canada. It was an eye opening experience. One I'll never forget. Scientists from all over the world were involved in developing this new technology and many of them were there that day.

With industry and business evolving, it’s a great idea to consider the environmental impact. With this much greenhouse gas emission currently, we wouldn’t stand a chance in 2060 with the reference you made. There has been a lot of climate change and global warming, mainly because of pollution. With buildings evolving, and the use of cement increasing, this is a life-saving idea. Overall, this is a genius idea, and I hope it turns out to be the new approach to stopping climate change and global warming.
@@DanielSmith-ze9lw Producing cement from limestone is done by clinker which turns CaCO3 into CaO so it clearly does not produce H2O so I can assure you that the video shown above is not the output of that industry, although you are absolutely correct to say that CO2 can be released while in a mixture with H2O vapour. Also there are no other 'white' gases that can be produced that abundantly other than H2O.
