I thought of something today that might make an interesting video, and my first thought was that it's the kind of thing I can see Nate trying. But then… he gives the impression he can do anything. (Someone linked me to a "primitive technology" ripoff where they pretend to make concrete by baking a bucket of dirt. I want to see somebody find out how much effort it actually takes to make usable concrete from scratch, making all the tools first and digging up all the ingredients. Nate would be my first choice because you know he'd show how many attempts it took to get the mix right)

Dude, as a fellow foam-crafting enthusiast, I really appreciate the candid personal experiences and what you've learned about parts of the process. I know that contact cement pain all too well. I tend to spread the sides of the dart cut perpendicular to the face of the foam sheet to help get all the way into particularly narrow angles. A hair dryer works wonders for my impatience with contact cement. Turns that 15-minute wait into like 3 minutes.

Just completed my Squirtle turtle shell using this tutorial! This was my first attempt at using foam for a cosplay and this was so easy to follow! I usually get easily discouraged with projects like these, but I had to trust the process and I'm so proud of how it turned out! Thank you!

My ADHD usually gets the best of me on longer videos, so I end up with 18 tabs open of random videos, but this was very interesting, so I was surprised when it ended, even after seeing that it was 25 min, felt like 5, even thou I clicked off once.

Donny or Leo would be pretty easy to secure because the straps you would want to incorporate to hold the bow or swords would make for a good harness (I'm thinking original toys.) The other two would be trickier, you'd need hidden straps or some velcro maybe to hold to the top of the shell securely while the belt is the only real strapping. This is fun though, Nate. Definitely make more. If you're doing a full costume I would be interested in seeing how you handle the rest.

for the border, EVA foam noodles/pipe insulation would be a good choice also - less worrying about forming - just slit them open and clamp around the edge - then you just need to sculpt a little with a dremel
@MyklCarlton
@MyklCarlton 2 года назад
Came here to say this! I think the pipe insulation comes in a variety of thicknesses, so it shouldn't be too hard to find something in the ballpark of what we need for the piece. May be more expensive than floor mats, but if it give you more time to finesse the final touches it's well worth it.
@beckymurphy4714

And a bonus with the pool noodles is they can be "heat-welded" together - check out @StiltbeastStudios for how to do that.

Mebbe measure from coccyx to base of neck plus across the ribcage for whoever the piece is for so you know what size you're working toward? Also, mebbe velcro strips to mount the shell decoration pieces. This would allow a 'quick change' by having differently coloured (yes, I'm an Aussie) panels, perhaps a metallic or pearlescent finish for a more 'natural' shell appearance. Also if a panel gets damaged it can be swapped out with trying to rip off the contact cement.

I've caught up with your videos recently and I'm loving what you have done on your channel. Your chemistry with Calli and your friends is amazing and I love the jokes and humor that create an awesome working environment. I also really enjoy your unique experiments. It really shows that you love what you do and that's awesome. A little while ago I made the decision to unsubscribe from TKOR and 2KOR because their videos just don't feel that special or entertaining anymore to watch. It made me sad since TKOR was one of my favorite channels of all time due to you and Calli with your fun experiments and amazing chemistry together. You and Calli brought that channel to life for me and ever since you guys got fired from it the videos just don't look or feel as special as you and Calli made them to be even though they could be similar videos that you and Calli have done in the past. I believe that TKOR made a mistake with letting you and Calli go and they'll probably regret not having you 2 amazing people on their channel anymore. It doesn't feel entertaining to watch their videos anymore because it seems to now be more focused on money then entertainment. Regardless, I am so happy that you are still making videos and bringing Calli along every now and then plus still keeping that amazing chemistry you guys had on TKOR that we all love. You are such good people and I'm positive you guys will have amazing success. Keep up the amazing work you've always done and never give up!

Nate and others who do this Craft could answer, Wouldn't it be a better bond to keep the factory edge [puzzle edge] when gluing to two pieces together? Although you make need to sand a bit to ruff it up! My thoughts are the puzzle edge holds a bit by itself and then there would be more surface area to adhere to.
@MichaelACurtis
@MichaelACurtis Год назад
The contact cement adheres on contact, so getting all the puzzle edges to line up without sticking at weird angles can be tricky. A straight edge is much simpler to keep from touching. I've seen other channels use paper to keep the contact cement from sticking too early on long straight edges.

"You don't put contact cement on both sides..." and at that precise moment i'm gluing stuff to an art piece with contact cement, and not putting it on both sides.. I have my reasons, it is just better to do it the right way. I used tons of the stuff in instrument repair shop, it is very good alternative for attaching pads to sax, clarinet etc. The old school way is to use hot wax cause you can melt it and re-adjust the pads to make them airtight. Contact glue when wet works the same way, you can adjust it before clamping it down. It takes much, much longer to cure, hours instead of 20 minutes.
