Made these for dinner and served them with mustard fried chicken, greens and black-eyed peas. This will now be my official go-to recipe for waffles. They were absolutely perfect!
If you have no peanut allergies, and want to take these waffles to the next level, smear a little creamy peanut butter on them before pouring on the syrup. HEAVEN!!!
Here are the ingredients and the method for this recipe! Your ingredients should be room temperature. You will need: 1 1/2 cups buttermilk (for homemade buttermilk, add 2 tbsp of distilled vinegar to 1 1/2 cups whole milk, stir and let sit for about 10 mins) 2 extra large egg yolks 3/4 cup sour cream 1 cup all-purpose flour 2 tbsp coarsly ground cornmeal 1 tsp of baking soda 5 tbsp of salted butter, melted and cooled (alternatively, use unsalted butter and add a good pinch of coarse salt) 3 extra large egg whites. Method: In a large bowl, add 2 extra large egg yolks and mix together with 3/4 cup sour cream. Add 1 cup of all purpose flour. Then add 2 tbsp of coarsely ground cornmeal and 1 tsp of baking soda. Mix together. Add buttermilk. Stir, but do not over-stir. Whisk in 5 tbsp of salted butter. In another bowl, whip three extra large egg whites to stiff peaks. Fold half of the egg whites to the flour mixture. Fold in rest of egg whites. Do not over mix batter. Heat your waffle iron to high heat. Spray with non-stick cooking spray, ladle in the mixture and cook for about 6 minutes. A good way to tell if your waffle is ready is the steam: If there is still a lot of steam billowing out of the waffle iron, your waffle is not ready yet. A trick to keep the waffle nice and crisp: Toss the waffle in between your hands so that the steam can escape or simply use a wire rack. Serve while warm!
Made chicken and waffles for dinner using this recipie. I added a little.sugar and vanilla extract. They came out peefect! I have a large family so I warmed the oven to 350 and laid the waffles on a rack until all were done. They turned out perfect and didnt dry out or toast to dark. Warmed some butter and syrup in a gravy bowl and served hot. Left overs were frozen for quick breakfast. 😁 Thanks TJ!
Incredibly detailed presentation and easy-to-understand. I tried this recipe in the waffles couldn't have been better. The light fluffiness I've always looked for in a waffle.
Thank you for the most godly recipe and tutorial for waffles I have ever seen. Finally got around to making it and Jesus it was amazing (didn't have sour cream but still came out amazing). Thank you thank you thank you lol
Perfect recipe! I followed this recipe while adding my own little twist (due to a lack of ingredients) and the waffles came out perfectly like never before. Thanks a lot ✌️✌🏾️👍
Hi Thomas! Every time I make falafel from scratch, it falls apart in the frying process. I know this is a problem many of my friends have too. Could you make a video about that? :) Thanks for all the awesome videos you've made so far!
I made these with the kids this Sunday, huge hit, we would smash fresh raspberries in to them as soon as they come out of the iron. It added a sweetness to the heavy waffle.
I didn't expect the eggs.... and I had no idea buttermilk was made that way... ( I once just added butter to milk haha!) It looks like work, but I'll try it!
I love these tricks you are giving us!!! Found a repost on Facebook from your pancake guide to make them fluffy and I am in looooove with this channel! Thanks so much! Will try these waffle to see how they turn out.
hi can you help me to make sansrival pleaseeeee?? i find your recipes are exact and im very happy with the results. they taste so yum and i dont have to go out to a restaurant. ill just pop in ur videos and do it myself. thank you
I'd love to see you make a simple strawberry jam. Last time my jar lids popped, I thought they were sealed well but my jam separated inside after a couple days.
Is there a substitute for sour cream? I can't stand the stuff. AT ALL lol. I usually use plain greek yogurt when a recipe calls for sour cream, but as it is being used as a leavening agent, yogurt wouldn't work.
Thanks for this great recipe and the hints.... I never knew that making butter milk was that easy.... I live in Brazil and we don't have it here.... I looked up in the Internet to find out how much a butter stick weights in the US but could not find it. Could you provide the amount of butter in grams? Tks
hint: if you're using a regular waffle iron, cut the time in half, and don't wait for the steam to stop completely. also a TB of sugar goes a long way. further, vinegar doesn't make buttermilk but it works in a pinch.
Would you mind telling me Why didn t you ad the butter before mixing the batter together with other ingredients? Is there any thing todo with gluten formation, thank you
Could you please share your recipe for puff pastry not the cheat recipe but the proper recipe with great butter etc.. Also on how to ensure the butter doesn't seep out nor does it mix with the dough.. Please this will be a great recipe..Also share on how to get the recipe right even if it's one is attempting it in a hot country like India.. I live in Bombay Mumbai India.. I tried that recipe and it just kept ozing butter no matter how much I put the thing in fridge or was working in full blast AC.. Thanks, Angel David..
hebrewmama 1 1/2 cups whole milk 2 tablespoons white vinegar 2 jumbo eggs, separated, plus 1 jumbo egg white 1 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 cup sour cream 2 tablespoons coarse cornmeal 1 teaspoon baking soda 5 tablespoons salted butter, melted Vegetable oil cooking spray, for waffle iron it's from her site ,this is the link www.marthastewart.com/316038/donns-waffles ,u're welcome
I tried this recipe today and it stuck to the waffle maker so I washed it and started again. I made sure the iron was hot enough so water drops danced around the waffle maker. It was better but still stuck after the third try I just decided to make them into pancakes. I think the batter is thin . Followed the recipe to the letter though. I always thought that waffle batter is thicker.
Did you spray your waffle iron with cooking spray? I just got a new Belgian waffle iron that is nonstick but my first waffle did stick anyway. After peeling it off of the grates, I tried again but thoroughly sprayed them first and it worked beautifully. Sometimes even nonstick needs a bit of seasoning. :)
i made waffles in my silicon waffle mould which turned out like a sponge cake...i need to know what is the correct temperature for baking it and also is d procedure a lil different from regular fr waffle mould???? plz help
What he made is "soured milk". It's closer to yoghurt than buttermilk. I have made decent waffles with butter milk, so I'd say it's possible. You should try both ways to check what you prefer, tho!
Hey :) actually I don't have sour cream available in my city. What alternative can I use for it or what recipe should I use to make homemade sour cream? Please reply soon, I'm eager to try this recipe.
+anmol walimbe haha you would think the sour cream make it sour. It doesn't but if you're still worried just try flavored greek yogurt. I love pineapple yogurt in my cakes. It makes it sooo moist.
