@diycosmetica
@diycosmetica 2 года назад
If I understand correctly your question - it absorbs quickly into the skin, no soapy or draggy feeling when applied into the skin. It is rich and more dense than body lotion but not greasy or heavy as regular body butters.
@maj5192

I love it! I love body butters because of the hardness but I add a good amount of shea butter and so it makes it grainy during the hot season. For that, I've been playing around with emulsified body butters but can't seem to make it hard enough to fit a deodorant tube (which is my goal). Do you have any tips? I've tried adding stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, guar gum and beeswax with the emulsifier (montanov 68). I know it's hard to tell without the entire formula but it was my first formula I attempted so I dont know if it's worthy of writing down because I didn't like the feel. It felt gummy! Thank you!
@diycosmetica
@diycosmetica 2 года назад
Hey! From my experience montanov68 is a very light emulsifying wax, it won’t harden the cream enough. If you want the body butter to be solid what I would recommend is to make a body butter bar which you can place in a deodorant container and use it similar to lip balm but on your body. I’ve shared a recipe for this lotion bar with butters and oils: diycosmetica.com/lotion-bar It’s a great bar that replaces the body butters or emulsified body butters. Another thing you can do is use waxes with higher melting point, those will harden the product more than beeswax. You can check this post here with many options for waxes you can use: diycosmetica.com/waxes-in-cosmetics When working with Shea butter if you want to avoid the graininess you can place the product in the fridge immediately once you’ve poured it. This usually helps to make a smooth product, or you can lower the amount of Shea butter and use mango butter instead. I’m sure if you’ll try the lotion bath you’ll like it, it’s a perfect replacement for body butters and easier to apply or carry with you.

Hi, yes you can replace the cocoa with mango butter but take into consideration that mango is much softer than cocoa so you’ll still have thick and dense emulsified body butter but a bit less than the original recipe. I also uploaded another recipe for emulsified body butter if you want to try for next time :) diycosmetica.com/silky-smooth-emulsified-body-butter

@diycosmetica Год назад
In any emulsion you must use emulsifying wax to bind water and oils together. You can read more about it here: diycosmetica.com/how-to-make-a-basic-lotion-cream You can replace the emulsifying wax I’ve used (olivem1000) with another kind of emulsifying wax such as BTMS, Polawax, Ritamulse SCG, Montanov 68…. Check with your cosmetic’s supplier for different kinds of emulsifying waxes and decide which one you prefer.

Great formula! Can I use Cetyl alcohol instead of xanthan gum ti help stabilize the emulsion? Does olivem 1000 soap up and is there an oil amount we have to use with it? I know some emulsifiers can only accept up to 25% oils in the formula
@diycosmetica
@diycosmetica 6 месяцев назад
Hi, You can replace some of the butters with Cetyl alcohol for more silky texture, I would reduce the Shea butter to 9% and replace the remain 3% with Cetyl alcohol. Olivem1000 has more soapy effect than other emulsifiers, you can swap it with Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, which has much less the soapy effect and can also emulsify high % of oils. You can also use Montanov™ L instead of the Olivem1000. Montanov™ L can emulsify up to 50% oils (some suppliers indicate it can emulsify up to 60% oils), it has a much lighter texture than other emulsifiers and it is stable in wide range of pH levels (3-11) and it also has moisturizing properties.

For a sensitive skin with eczema I would probably skip the essential oil (or fragrance oil) and instead of them I’ll add echinacea extract or ivy leaf extract- both can help with eczema.

Do you have to let the product sit out for 24-48 hours before putting it into your final container so it can reach it’s final form or can I use right away?
@diycosmetica
@diycosmetica 9 месяцев назад
I personally don’t let creams sit for 24-48 hours. Once I add phase C I leave the cream for 5-6 hours not longer, and then put it into a container. If it was a body wash I would let it sit for 12 hours but with creams and lotions they have their final consistency after less time (normally, of course some ingredients can get to the final consistency after more time). If you do let it sit for 12-48 hours - make sure to cover the beaker once the cream has cooled down to room temperature.

How long does it take to double boil both Phase A and Phase B? Should I take them both out when Phase A is completely melted?
@diycosmetica
@diycosmetica 9 месяцев назад
Depending on your emulsifying wax, different emulsifying waxes have different melting point. If you have a thermometer you can let both phases reach 75 degrees Celsius, and leave them at this high temperature for 20 minutes. If you don’t have a thermometer, wait till phase A is completely melted and give it a few minutes to ensure everything is melted.

Shelf life of this product? And can i use phenoxyethanolninstead of cosguard?
@diycosmetica

Shelf life depends on your ingredients’ shelf life and your preservative. If your ingredients have for example one year expiration date and your preservative can preserve for 5 month so your product will have 5 months shelf life. You can use your preferred preservative, taking into consideration to use it according to the supplier instructions.

Lately I’ve been using Glyceryl Stearate Citrate and I feel it gives a lighter feeling in the skin. I’ve use it in this body butter: diycosmetica.com/skin-food-body-butter The bubbles can be a result of over whipping the butter.

You can, kojic acid is used in skin lighting creams. I would add only 1% of the kojic acid. If you add it to this recipe so 3g (and you’ll have to subtract 3g from the water phase so 174g of water). Make a test patch before using all over the skin, some people are sensitive to this ingredient.

The recipe I’ve share will not melt in hot temperature (in room temperature, obviously if you leave it outside in the sun it’s different). I’m from Spain and our summer is very hot! We have 38-40 degrees Celsius and I have been using it during the summer without a problem. If you want to make it and preserve it for a year, use a long term cosmetic preservative. I usually use natural preservatives that can preserve for 3-4 months. Also make sure your ingredients have at least one-year expiration date.

You could use just cocoa butter but cocoa butter is much harder than shea butter so you might end up with a very hard and thick product. It would be better to replace some of the amount of Shea butter with cocoa butter and some with liquid oil. If you’re making 300g you can use 14g cocoa butter (in total) and 9g liquid oil (in total).
