Libbylooper I’ve just got a ferret and she’s three months old but I can’t get rid of her smell, I clean her whole cage out with blankets in the wash and she’s raw fed but my whole room smells :( got any tips?

Desiree G I’m from the uk so they don’t get dissented or fixed when she is young, her smells been getting better but I’m just learning to deal with the smell haha, I’ve also realised she smells much worse after she is in the water and I’ve got a little paddling pool that she loves so that’s a lot of her smell

exactly my sister's boyfriend doesn't like ferrets bc they smell, but he has two dogs, a very large one and a medium one and they can be outside for like 5 mins, and they reek like they're so bad that you don't even want to breath when they're in your area and their breath is even worse and he's gonna complain abt ferret smell

Same. It's sort of a warm, comfortable smell. Almost like a bread loaf except it doesn't make you hungry.

I wash my ferrets blankets with water or newborn sensitive detergent and clean there litter box every day and bath them once a year or if they made and accidents and I use a humidifier with out the sent and it helps clean the air

I've had 12, yes they all had a smell & they all smelled a bit different. Some smelled like food like maple syrup, fritos, nacho doritos & popcorn. I use lavender sacks in the dryer instead of dryer sheets & had 2 that liked to steal the sack & sleep with them (both females), they smelled great. Had a few that were quite stinky & oddly enough they tended to be the most snuggly. Had 2 that had intact scent glands & they really didn't smell much unless they wanted to. Every time I have had more than 1 I have been able to tell which one is lurking by the smell. I actually like the way they smell & compared to some foods people eat it is not bad at all.

Honestly my ferret smell is tolerable but if I don’t clean up the poop it starts to smell it’s really only the poop that smells

Your videos have really been helping me out- I still live with my mom so she won’t let me get a ferret or two- Since she thinks they stink- But I don’t think so. 😊 But your information, tutorials, and educational videos have taught me what to do and what I should be expecting on when I do decide too get a ferret. Though I will only get one when I know I am completely ready- I just want you too know- Thank you! I really hope your videos have taught some people that ferrets are like any other pets, they have the same problems and they need the same love. Thank you. ❤️

I don’t mind the way my ferrets smell, but mine are out all the time so I think that’s why, it builds up if they are in the cages a lot, and I NEVER bath them

I just love their smell☺️ I just clean up after them twice a day. Also recently switched to raw last week and their poo doesn't smell as much already. Also I notice they smell really fresh after a long walk outside☺️

Love your videos and I’m a massive ferret fan myself, having 10 ferrets and 2 European polecats. Just thought I’d mention that I see you add photos of Stoats and Weasles in your videos a lot, which are obviously mustelids but aren’t ferrets so not sure if you should include them as to confuse your audience.

clean it once a day, maybe twice depending on how much waste in the litter box. Cleaning any fleece bedding on the same level as their litter box or food and cleaning hammocks and other fleeces maybe monthly will probably help too.

No don’t do that. It’s rlly not needed anyways it’s usually their diet or maybe their cage that makes them smell. As if their in the cage for a long time that doesn’t rlly help

Is incense okay instead of candles? Also, what about smoker Houses? I don't have any pets yet but I would love in the future, but I smoke in my house although I ventilate every single day, would that be harmful for them? Also, could I be using scented detergent and softner on My clothes?

Yes that would be rlly harmful for them. Also you rlly shouldn’t smoke in your house. And no scented detergents or cleaning products! No candles and no incense

How is it hard to give them all attention…. Ferrets sleep during the majority of the day so you have plenty of time to be around your dogs.

Yeah that’s fine… they are usually sleeping during the day anyways but are you from dusk and dawn so go see them in the evening to let them out and play

Orbit [MOD] Yes, keeping ferrets would be complicated and stressful under these conditions. I recommend waiting to adopt a pair until your lifestyle is more stable.

I know someone who has a massive house and 1 labrador. The whole house smells of dog. Shes a dog groomer and the whole house smells horrid. In my opinion a lot of dogs smell way worse than ferrets

They don’t need any shampoos or conditioners no soaps of any kind! That’s what makes them smell worse and damages their skin! She literally said that. You just use water and they only should be bathed 0-2 times a year

You should quarantine the new ferret for a couple of days in a separate cage/space to make sure they aren't ill. Afterwards let them get to smell each other with a barrier between them, like putting them in a cage and carrier next to each other or similar idea. afterwards letting them interact freely while supervised to make sure they dont hurt each other and once they seem to be getting along well you should be good. sorry im not sure about specific amounts of time for each step!

Do it very very slowly, put a little bit of raw food or meat juices in their kibble so they get used to the taste then slowly one week at a time add in more raw diet things

Yeah…. But ferrets do now how to swim, they would do so in the wild. Most animals can swim there are some that can’t. Also she never said Chuck them in a pool. She’s talking about bathing them which means a small amount of water that they can stand in.

You sound like a child. She is an adult who has been around animals basically her whole life and she is a literal animal nutritionist. She also has a bunch of ferrets herself and has for years. So not sure how she’s wrong. But go off.
