Good recipe. First time making fried bake. They came out great. My background is Jamaican. I gave some to my mom and she was impressed. "How did you get the inside hollow?", she asked. "And it was not greasy at all"... delicious. I stuffed it with braised oxtail, sweet friend plantain and creamy coleslaw.
Hi I live in Ohio and I have no access to Trinidadian restaurants so I rely heavily on your channel. I made fry bakes this morning as requested by my American husband. Thank you for making me look good Chef and Kezzy🥰
There was a Trini lady in Youngstown that opened a Caribbean restaurant with occasional live music a few years ago. I have only been there a few times but I think it is still around.
I live in Ohio too . I did not know there was a T+ T restaurant .. . Fry bakes and herring was a staple every Saturday morning :) . Attempting this tomorrow , wish I had some herring lol 😂
Been trying to make fry bake ages now an it comes out so heavy 😔😔 I tried this recipe ladies an omg we HV a winner 🥳🥳 first time ever they actually float feel proud of myself 😁😁 #MyFoodieAirFryer
Yummy looks similar to Fried Dumpling or Johnny Cake as we call it in Jamaica but it is lighter not to much dough on the inside, I can eat some of that with sweet plantain and Calaloo 🤗
Jacks (Flying Fish), fried Saltfish in onion and tomato sauce, roasted eggplant and garlic with onion...then again some salt butter would just fine and lets not forget smoked herring. Lots of Matouk's pepper sauce.
I'm confused , fried baked when it's only fried and not baked in an oven. It's just like dumplings, fried dumplings, but it's not fried bake. It was not place in the oven after frying.
3 hours ago I made fry bake for the first time, it was perfect not forgetting the buljol I made that also. Thank you chef you know your job. Coo coo will be next
In Aruba we call it Johnny cake. And love it with simple cheese, salt fish or just plain. I make it regularly for my friend and neighbours in the Netherlands
Greetings from Dominica .I really like how you break down everything for the viewers example why to not to put the yeast and the salt together thanks so much . You all are Such a lovely couple.
Nad DA no this isn’t an “Indian Dish.” Indians have many varieties of rotis and this isn’t one of them. This fried bread or bakes ORIGINATED in Africa.
@Amy Zane it is similar to Fried Dumpling just lighter not so doughy and tight like Jamaican Fried Dumpling. Born and raised on the JA style though when my mom made it growing up it was smaller, these Jamaican restaurants in The Bronx, make these huge baseball size dumpling that can knock you out.

Thank you foodie nation, kezzianne and Chef Jason ( The Original Bubbling Star) TOBS😉. I'm a young newly wed, I didn't get a chance to cook anything in my mother's house so I thank you for teaching young girls like myself and other people who are at different ages and stages in life, also in different parts of the world our sweet hand cooking and most loved dishes of Trinidad and Tobago. I tried this fried bake recipe and it was the bomb. Thanks so much to you both. Much love to you guys looking forward to many more Trinbagoian dishes. 🤗😍

I’ve been trying to make bakes for years!!!! Best recipe I’ve ever tried. Making it along with your video was so much fun! Reminds me of the bakes I had in Maracas when I was a student at UWI. Had it with codfish and the leftovers we had with corn beef the next day! Thanks guys🥰
Ooooh they look good, a little different from the Dominican method but it's always good to try new things. My Granny always put brown sugar and I love salt fish, tomatoes and aubergine with this!💥💥💥
greetings from Massachusetts, my comfort food from childhood is my dad making buljol and bake with tea on a cold morning 🥹 breakfast of champions ✊🏽(born in us and my parents r both born and immigrated from trinidad ✌🏽)
Oh Jimmy, boy you got me mouth watering. You reminded me that coconut rice was the last dish I cooked when I was in secondary school. After school I went down the bay and I was lucky because the guys had just hauled in a net of jacks. In there was some ballahoo (sorry I don’t know the spelling) mixed in. I got a few of them and went home, cooked up some brown rice with freshly grated coconut milk, cause you know we still only do fresh coconut. Mixed in the fish seasoned with my mom’s green seasoning. Gosh I can still smell that pot!
I love these videos. Fry bake and Trinidad cheese! I have was going to make sada roti with fried ochoes tonight but I think I will try these bakes instead. Thanks for the inspiration!
Bake and corned beef!!!.... bake and butter n cheese! I like my bake a little heavier.... don’t like too airy... so in that case I should omit the yeast right? Thank you so much for dis!!
I just made this for my family. But I never heard of using yeast. Just flour, butter, sugar, salt, baking powder. Need and cover (not with wet cloth) just put a plate over the bowl. And when frying use spoon with hole and scoop hot oil on top of bake to help to it swell. Flip and done... dont have corn mutton so used can corn beef or black beans, butter and cheese 🤤, sardine, saltfish.ect 🇬🇾🇬🇾
I watched this video for the first time yesterday first off I love u guys chemistry you guys have me watching everyone video u have I love u guys second I made this just how u did and it came out perfect I didn’t use the yeast but it still came out like bread now my kids are hooked and want it everyday thanks so much ♥️♥️

For those of us who can't have gluten, will Almond/Coconut flour have the same effect, and if so can you please do a video showcasing these ingredients?
I've baked & fried with coconut & almond flour & i will say that unfortunately, it will never come close to the original fried bake. It will fall short in taste, texture, and look.
I made fried bake for the first time using your recipe! It came out like I was a pro needless to say my huzzy was very happy 😊 thanks guys!!! Keep the videos coming I am learning a lot and thoroughly enjoying them!
Congratulations on a very informative show, whether you are a new or experienced cook there is always something to learn. I have a suggestion for dried packaged pimentos. If this is already available please let me know where I can purchase it in Florida. I believe a dried substitute would have a better flavor than its fresh ground counterpart. Thanks JHT
