Delicious Greek moussaka recipe.One of the most popular dish in Greece.Creamy bechamel sauce,layers of tasty baked potatoes in oven,juicy aubergines baked in oven too, minced beef in tomato sauce,all combined together to offer you a unique culinary experience.The baked in the oven veggies make this dish lighter but still so delicious.Enjoy!!!
INGREDIENTS
Veggies
-1,2 kg potatoes
-1 kg aubergines
-50 gr olive oil
-1 tsp salt
-1/2 tsp pepper
-1/2 tsp carry
Cut the veggies in flat slices, 1 cm thick.
Add the herbs and olive oil,mix them together and place them in the baking tray,in one layer.For better results use 2 baking trays, one of each vegetable.Bake the veggies for 30-40 min at 180 degrees.
In the meantime prepare the minced beef mixture:
-1 kg minced beef
100 gr olive oil
-1 tsp salt
-1/2 tsp pepper
-1 tsp carry
Saute then in a pot for 5 min until the beef's juices get evaporated.
Add:
-200 gr tomato juice
-200 gr water
Boil for 1/2 an hour or until all the juices have evaporated and the meat is soft.
In a baking tray put first a potato layer then an aubergine layer.
Continue with the meat layer and another potato layer.
Finish with the Bechamel sauce layer.
Sprinkle with breadcrumbs or parmesan cheese.
Bake in the over for 30-40 min at 180 degrees or until it takes a golden brown colour.
If you are patient enough,set aside for 30min before you try to cut a piece.
Bechamel sauce
-200 gr plain flour
-1 lt milk
-2 eggs
-1,5 tsp salt
-60 butter
1/2 or 1 tsp ground nutmeg (it depends on your preferences)
Mix all the ingredients together and place in medium heat.
Boil for 5-7 min or until the mixture starts to become thick. DO NOT over boil it.Remove from the fire the minute you feel it starts becoming thicker.
