I figured out how to attach tabs to that nose section. Use the exploder app and separate the pieces. Then you will have tabs on each section
@brianfinnigan2269
@brianfinnigan2269 3 года назад
You can also move tabs from one section to another by dragging it. You could have move one of the two from the mouth cut out

Nice! FWIW, a 1/8" compression bit is my preferred solution to tabs... In fact, you can make your 1st toolpath trace ON the lines w/ a 90° Vbit or a 1/8" roundover/form bit (DOC 0.11") to pre-finish the edges, then cut inside the lines of the face parts and leaving the pre-softened edges🍺🎃👍

Rather than dragging a box around the faces in Inkscape, you can hold the shift key as you are clicking on the pieces. That way you don't have to be as precise around all the extra bits you don't want.

You can add tabs in the cut section. Just increase the number of tabs and then you can move the tabs between all of your cut outs. If the mouth has 2 or 3 you can move one to any other spot that is missing a tab.

Great project as usual. Two question, what are the dimensions of the top and bottom pieces and are your pickets a full 6"?The reason I am asking is because a standard 6" fence picket is only 5 1/2" wide and with the 5 1/4" dimensions you were using for the body leaves only 1/4" difference on an uncut picket. It looks like you have at least a half an inch overhang all around.

Not sure if anyone has said this yet. Have you tried a combination bit? I have flat bottom combinations bit coming but have not tried them yet. I hear they are up cut on the bottom, down cut up toward the top or closest to the router. They are suppose to give clean cuts in the bottom and the top edge so you have very little clean up after done cutting.

@PawPawsWorkShop Год назад
Thank you very much and welcome to my channel. I use primarily three CNC machines. The XCarve by Inventables, the New Carve by CNC4NEWBIE and the VASTO by FOXAlien. All three are excellent machines and are used in my shop all the time. The software is the Easel which comes with Inventables. You can use it for the other machines as well. I chose to use VCarve Pro by Vectric. For the controller I use UGS (Universal Gcode Sender) or the Openbuilds controller. Both are free. These are not necessary with easel as it is built into the software.

As always a great video. Can you tell me the difference between union and combine in inkscape. Normally I would explode and combine in other programs. Thanks again for an informative show.
@SimplySellers202
@SimplySellers202 3 года назад
I had to look it up, because I had never even thought about it. If you have overlapping closed paths, the results will be different for Union versus Combine. If not overlapping, then there's no difference. There can also be differences with the behaviour of Combine itself, depending on the direction of paths. The example pictures that went along with it made it look like the overlapping pieces are joined together and one of them keeps the lines in the overlapped section and one doesn't. Now I have to go play with it to see.

PawPaw, I just had the occasion to watch this video and as usual, you did a great job. BUT when you started to use the router table to round over the small pieces, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. You are usually a modicum of safety and common sense. But you had your fingers really close in to the router bit. If that piece had jumped or kicked out, you would have probably rounded over your fingers. I'm sure you realize that but thought I would mention it. Since so many people watch your videos and follow your lead, always present the safest route. I really enjoy your work and your videos. take care and Happy Halloween 2021.

@PawPawsWorkShop

Yes, I have a number of videos that I have used round projects. The key is to use stops on both axis and use the x,y,0 in the center of the project. It keeps everything perfectly centered and it also makes changing out the projects easy because of the stops. They act like registration points.

@russellcrawford8657
@russellcrawford8657 3 года назад
@@davidbrinkley4710 I will try and answer the question you asked, I have been following Phillip for a long time and he was one of the reasons that I purchased the X-Carve, he made everything look simple and he explained it where I could understand. Phillip has had the X-Carve for about 3 years and has made a bunch of videos on how to use it. The X-Carve is a good machine and easy to use with the Easel software. The extra machine that he has is very similiar to the XCarve except that its a much stronger machine. I follow the forum on the XCarve site and also on Facebook and have always heard about CNC4Newbies upgrade equipment and how good it was. So when it came time for me to upgrade my XCarve I went with CNC4Newbies and my machine is similiar to what PawPaw uses. If I were starting out I would go with the CNC4Newbies NewCarve, its a stronger machine and you wont need to upgrade. You asked Will one of them not do what the other won't? They can both do the same thing except the NewCarve can do it faster and give you a better quality product. The NewCarve has been out for over a year and I don't think I have seen one bad review on it or anything negative about it. The company took the simplicity of the XCarve and made it better. Its not a right out the box plug it in machine "neither is the XCarve", you will have to understand what you are doing but that experience will make you a better craftsman. CNC4Newbies has a facebook page where you can ask questions about different things. Whatever you decide just have patience, you will get frustrated and wonder why you ever bought it and be ready to cuss someone out. Calm down and read the different threads on what people said and ask questions. It will take some time to get good at any machine that you purchase.
