I used this recipe for a spray baste on squares for a quilt as you go (fabric-batting-flannel). I used plastic over my counters, and will try towels next time. I decided after all squares were dry that I didn't like the quilt pattern and since I used very special fabric, I needed to save it. I sprayed all of the tops with water, let it soak in and was able to remove them from the batting. I dried out the batting and flannel backing pieces for use later. It's still a work in process, though I loved the spray. Like you, I've never used store-bought because of the toxic fumes and the cost.
Watching from Muskoka ON(3 hrs north of Toronto). I’m ready to practise machine quilting for for my first-ever machine quilted quilt! I found your old post when searching RU-vid re spray basting. I custom imported your recipe into a recipe app, so I always have it avail. I’m also going to print your new PDF and post it on the inside of one of my kitchen doors. I’m choosing the vodka option-I’m going to use vanilla vodka. Yum! I think it should smell amazing! Thanks for the positive newsletters. I love your energy.💙
Karen Rossi Thanks for the tip-I hadn’t even thought of that. Would not want to add sugar! Checked Smirnoff Vanilla Vodka has no sugar. Whew! Dodged a bullet on that one! 💙
I love this method. I have faux wood floors that were easy to mop up after the quilt was removed. Our garage floor was just epoxied and now I am going to try basting my next big quilt out there. No rug to help with friction. Any suggestions?
I have made your recipe sooooo many times. It's saved me tons of money. Plus the drying time gives me a break from becoming too hyperfocused on my project and neglecting the dishes or laundry😂. I make qayg rag quilts soo my drying rack is the perfect place to lay my blocks or straps while the dry soo my cat master doesn't get onto them.
Just made a batch, but can't get it to come out in a fine spray - only a stream :-( Should I add a bit more water? Use a specific type of bottle? I really want this to work so any suggestions would be helpful :-)
Just watched your video. Wouldn't it be useless to add any scent to your spray since you wash it out anyway? Also, this recipe is for starch as well, so I guess it's for both. Thanks for the video.
