After removing the grains, do a 2nd ferment with lemon peel for 1-2 hrs on your counter then place in fridge. This 2nd ferment is not sour at all...the result seems like a kind of milk soda. Super healthy for humans too!

Oooh, I’ll have to give that a try! I’ve done a second ferment with berries, never lemon peel though, sounds refreshing!

I have a 21 pound schnauzer who has chronic yeast infections. How much per day should I give him? I've also heard bananas are helpful too.

I read somewhere that 1 spoon for dogs depending on weight, I got 2 chihuahuas I give em 1 spoon each, the lady on my local farm said I can take only 2 spoons a day since it's very powerful as healthy for the gut,

Do you give the actual grains or the fermented milk?
@TheOtherParker
@TheOtherParker 6 лет назад
The fermented milk mainly, but you can feed the grains too! If I have to get rid of some I usually feed them to the dogs

How long can a culture last ? Can it be used over and over again?
@Jamiek485
@Jamiek485 3 года назад
Yes, as long as you don’t starve them (store them without milk to feed on). If you are going to be away, follow her advice in the video for freezing them. Then when u return, thaw them and start all over again.

Thank you for replying to my earlier question. I bought a starter kit and I'm not having much luck. I cut in half the 4 cups of milk to a full packet of kefir powder. I used 2 cups of whole pasturizedmilk to 1/2 packet if Kefir. Directions say to boil the milk, I tried both ways. I understand not to use a metal spoon. does the size of the jar matter, air space? 73 degree house. Thank you.

You can try using a jar with a wider opening, or even a bowl for better air flow. Your house should be plenty warm enough. Maybe try even less milk? Sometimes it can take a few batches to really get a new culture running in full force.

Can I give it to a dog who is lactose intolerant?
@TheOtherParker
@TheOtherParker 5 лет назад
Theoretically it should be fine, the culture should break down the lactose. To be safe, I would probably start with very small amounts and see how your dog does.
@k1dub1
@k1dub1 4 года назад
Do a second ferment go get the lactose down to 1%

great video, this stuff is so hard to find! How much do you give a dog daily
@TheOtherParker
@TheOtherParker 6 лет назад
Usually about 3 tablespoons, for my 40 to 70 lb dogs

You should never stick any metal in your kefir because it can kill the grains!!
@TheOtherParker
@TheOtherParker 6 лет назад
I’ve never had a problem! From what I read they shouldn’t be stored/cultured in metal, but brief contact (like a spoon) should be fine
