I just want to thank you for this series. Because of it I was able to go to a leather working workshop and not only was able to get some experience making a simple bracer I was able to inform the people at my table what some of the tools were and how to use them when the attendance got to large for the host to handle effectively on his own. From that and you I decided that I really enjoyed leather working and want to pursue it as a serious hobby.

That's really cool! I mean you can use straps for almost anything. I really liked the one with the copper piece in it, it looked cool. I think that when the tutorials for the armor is completed it will be nice to have some digital ones

Wonderful tutorial, you sir are a true artist in your craftmanship and someone with a lot of patience for teaching. Now that inspiration has come for me I have so much to learn from this channel. I’m going to start making my self some fine belt to reutilice an old buckle. And if my low level dares to try I might try to craft a scabbard for my kriegmesser, probably not going to make it good, but definitely trying. And why I’m saying this? To make sure that you my good sir are aware that you are truly inspiring and introducing some people into your art.

A clean CNC alternative for lighter weight leather and especially chrome tan is a Cricut maker. It has a rotary blade and up 10x the pressure of other vinyl cutters. Only the maker does this for the cricut brand.

The laser ones cut ones look the most interesting, but without burnishing look less natural.

I got into leather crafting recently, mainly because of your Videos! I also got some tandy leather and their Basic Tools. Its Just an amazing craft! Thanks alot for showing it to so many of us :D i myself am a Larper and i started making "ugly" and worn leather Armor parts for my Ork. Maybe You would be interested in Sharing ideas or making a Video about how to make Something orkish with leather (deep cuts from Battles, dirt and other stuff) i would be really interested. If Not thats totally fine ^^ i will still enjoy every single one of your Videos!

Awesome, awesome, and awesome. Straps is something I’ve been kind of struggling with since I started. I got going with leather work because of your videos and patterns and now I can improve even more with this. I think I might actually cry tears of joy when that video for the chest piece comes out, I can’t wait! Keep up the amazing work please!

Digital tutorials would be very welcome at some point. I haven't really heard of anyone using Corel in ages, so it would be interesting to compare that to the wealth of Adobe tutorials out there, especially in regards to something practical like leatherworking.

Is there any issue with lazer cutting chrome-tan? I have a friend who seems to think they're incompatible, but leathercraft isn't actually his field.

I used to do it all the time when I did more production work. Your friend may have a weak laser or wrong settings or experience with a particularly stubborn material or even be used to typical laser mediums that are much easier.

It can produce some pretty nasty fumes, and tends to make cuts look a bit shitty compared to a veg tan. But you can do it if you need to.

you will definitely want to make sure you have REALLY good ventilation/filtering. Chrome tan stuff can make some brutal fumes because of the chemicals used in the tanning/coloring processes.

I don't know too much about leather, but my dad taught me a bit back when he made knives (he made sheathes for most pieces; hated it cos the method he used most was both sewing AND contact cement annnd contact cement stinks, but he did it) - From what he told me, assuming I remember right, certain heavy textiles are measured by weight. It's not actually a thickness, it's how much a square yard weighs theoretically. They do or did it with like, denim/canvas/burlap/linen - and leather. From the looks of that li'l tool in the video though I'm guessing they changed it and I have no idea. This's just what I do know.
