If i may share a possible alternative. For those that can't get to a leather store or can't afford all the tools. Medium to Large leather dog collars could be a good choice. they already come brown and black too.

Great first go for beginners! I love leatherworking, and do a lot for my steampunk cosplay! A few quick tips: 1. I would recommend against using a metal hammer meant for nails. Although it gets the job done quick, it will also warp and possibly break your tools. It's better to use a wood, rawhide or plastic mallet. It takes a lot more whacks, but makes your punching and other tools last a lot longer. Also when using hole punching tools, use a scrap of leather underneath, as wood might get stuck in the tool and be hard to get out. 2. Rubber cement will hold the leather to the foam well, but personally I prefer to sew nylon webbing to the leather strap and use high temp hot glue. This requires a lot of extra steps, punching out thread holes and hand sewing the webbing on, but if it's in a location that's hard to get to once the piece is finished, it feels like a much stronger hold to me. I hope you continue to work with leather on your channel! I'm in the Seattle area, also, so shoot me a line if you have any questions!

I've made leather straps for cosplays, super fun, but i find that letting the tails hang loose, especially if they're kinda long, tend to get in the way and be annoying, so it might be good to have something for them to tuck into too!

not leather related, but Bill, what size 3d printer would you recommend for printing medium size prop pieces like your Boolean Gemini? I figured I'd get a response if I asked on the most recent video.
@punishedprops

Get as big a printer as you can afford. Pieces can always be cut up and printed in sections.

A cheap source of leather for straps if you don't have a place with a scrap bin handy are old shoes, boots or purses. There are usually plenty of these at Goodwill or Salvation Army if you don't have any on hand.

I think that you covered most things fairly well in this video, but it you use a half buckle on your straps, then adding a keeper will stop the end of the strap getting in the way. Another good source of straps for armour if you do not have a leather shop nearby or if you do not have access to tools is to buy cheap pet collars and cut them up.

@punishedprops

Yep, they should! Barge Cement was actually designed for leather and works very well with it. Because the bracers don't weigh much, there's not a lot for the straps to hold up.

Punished Props Academy thank you. I am looking at putting straps on the armour I am making and wasn’t sure if I should use leather rivets to hold the straps in place. The armour is foam covered in Worbla. I am concerned with the rivets will just tear through the armour, so glueing it maybe my best solution
