That seems the easiest way to make leather laces. The only problem is that the direction of cutting is always changig comparing to the direction of spine of the leather, so the stretching is changing along the leather lace but this little disadvantage not very important comparing to the adventage of the extra (33 feet) long laces. Many thanks for that you showed us that we have to insert our thumb into the hole of the leather when cutting or otherwise the lace would be narrower or shorter because the knife would go out of the leather. Thanks for this video.
Are you using buckskin?! I've seen this done before and I wanted the cutter but then everyone said it can only be used with a stiff leather! Im so excited to see this and going to buy a cutter now! 😁
This is factory tanned deer hide, you will find that the thinner the leather the harder it will be to use the tool unless you put in a brand new blade. 95% of the time I have no problem cutting lace with it. Thanks for watching & the comment. Chris
Hi there. Great video. I was hoping that you might be able to help me with a round leather cord question. I can't seem to find out how to repair it when it gets scuffed. I like to make beaded leather bracelets using the usual round brown leather cord. It has a smooth, sort of waxy finish but if you over work it, it starts to look more like suede. (And makes my jewelry look used) Do you know how they achieve this smooth finish? So I can try to get the over worked cord/lacing look new again? Thank you! :)
Cool video! I have seen the same style lace cutter from leather unlimited.com . Not sure of the price. I have a strap cutter and bought replacement blades for it. I soon discovered that the handheld school supply pencil sharpener blades work. Pick them up on clearance after school starts and they can be as cheap as .50
Hobby Lobby has them now if you are around one of them. Otherwise here's a link to the ones at Amazon www.amazon.com/s?k=leather+lace+cutter&crid=2NHPXQNUEQB1C&sprefix=leather+lace%2Caps%2C317&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_7_12
