Thanks Lacie and Merry Christmas to ya'll!! Yeah, stinging nettle is so abundant around here and it's amazing how nutritious and medicinal it is. I enjoy dehydrating it and using it to make salves and lotions. It's gr8 for eczema!
Wow Stacie Thank you for all the important information ! I'm older and I think this will really help my body. Thank you for taking time for us in your already busy life.💖 God bless you today🎈🙏
Thanks Jennifer! I have wanted to but right now I just don't have time to make and edit more content with as much as we have going on. Hopefully soon I will be able to do more! ~ Lacie
Thank you for an awesome video! Merry Christmas to you and your Family ... Sending prayers that God Blesses you all, keeps you well and safe and brings you all Peace and Joy! Sending love, hugs and will keep you all in my prayers! 🙏💖💓
I am making more Body Balm this week. We are working on our new website but it isn't ready yet. Send me an email at FarmFitMail@gmail.com and I can send you the info on the body balm.
Who’d a thought stinging nettle. Not I said the farm lady whom cries like a baby if I run into it. Learning something new daily is my goal for new year.. This is on the list now.. Thanks for sharing..
You need a nettle salve so if you run into it next year you can use it against itself. lol I am so glad that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
You're welcome! It is so much more affordable than buying supplements. (Not to say that they don't have a place) You can buy a pound of Nettles for about $20 to $25 and from that you could make 16 quarts of infusion if you drank 2 quarts a week you would only spend about $12 to $15/ month on your vitamins. I want to start making tinctures too so I can have a more shelf stable "liquid vitamin". Thanks so much for watching Tami!
Perfect timing! I'm working on eliminating standard supplements. Edit: I like Frontier brand too - we used them when I worked at a natural foods co-op.
I have been really happy with all the herbs we have gotten from Frontier. I usually buy them from iherb.com. Glad you like the video, thanks so much for watching!!
Cool! Thanks for this video! I didn't know about stinging nettle. I like that it makes the vitamins liquid, therefore they are easier to absorb! Merry Merry Christmas!
You are very welcome Sonya! Nettle is so wonderful for you, I plan on growing them next year. There are so many health benefits. Journey on my friend! ~ Lacie
Growing up in Pennsylvania, we called Stinging Nettle ..... cow itch. Really had to watch where you walked along the streams or in the fields. I did not learn about them being of any value until late in adulthood .... they were just pesty weeds to us lolzzz! Personally, I think I would like it with mint & honey ...... thanks, and take care.
I haven't ever heard it called cow itch but I can see why someone would call it that. I like it with mint and honey too! Thanks so much for watching! ~Lacie
If you think for one second that you are getting away without giving us the scoop on your body balm, you have misjudged us. I want to know all the things: recipe, construction, uses. All. The. Things. And thank you kindly for the infusion method. I have not tried anything like this but am going to this weekend! :)
Hey Heather! I am making some this week. Right now we are working on our new website. Could you send me an email at FarmFitMail@gmail.com and we can get you set up?
Thank you! A really good herb to read up on for the liver is Dandelion Root. Here is an article from Susun Weed she is a wealth of herbal knowledge www.susunweed.com/herbal_ezine/June06/anti-cancer.htm
Hey, Great information, thank you. Your preperation reminded me of " Susun Weed" I think that is her name. She prepared some "Red Clover" like you did the" Stinging Nettle". I have some "Nettle don't know if it's Stinging. Had to check to see what I have, it just reads Nettle. Will have to order Stinging Nettle soon. Thank you. Peace onto you and your family, blessed holidays.
Your Nettle should be Stinging Nettle. So you should be good to go. I am familiar with Susan Weed and she is a wealth of information on herbs. I have learned a lot from her. Thanks so much for watching! Blessings to you!! ~ Lacie
Thanks Norman! Yes the kids love it. As long as you don't put too much in there you can't even tell it is in the smoothie. They will even drink it when I cut it with peppermint tea, I just add a little honey to it too.
You are so welcome! Nettle really is so good for you in many ways and it seems like I am always learning something new that it helps out with. Thanks so much for watching Bonnie!! Blessings to you and your family!!
Lacie, can you please tell me where to find the herb you used? And, the proper spelling. Is it Stingy Nettle? I looked in my Baker Seed catalog but didn't find it. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
Hey Jan! I have not grown Stinging Nettle (but I plan to next year) so I buy it in bulk. A good place to buy from is iherb.com and I buy the Frontier brand. I did find it on Baker Creek's website, here is the link. www.rareseeds.com/stinging-nettle/
Where can I order it from? We have a plant in our yard which we call stinging nettle. Could I cut it & use it? If so, would I have to cook it down or dry it?
Yes you can harvest the nettle in your yard and dry it. Once it is dried or cooked the stinging is gone. I would use some gloves to harvest it and dry it in the dehydrator, then you can use it to make your infusions. You can also use it fresh in pesto (I do think you need to blanch it first so it doesn't sting you), people add it to soups, stews, stir frys, etc... It is such a useful "weed" and I plan on growing it next year along with a lot more medicinal herbs.
Great video. I love infusions, they really are so much kinder to the digestive system than the stand alone commercial type vitamin and mineral supplements. I used qts of nettle infusions to up my hemoglobin before heart surgery. I cannot take oral iron supplements.
I (Lacie) have issues with low hemoglobin too. I have used nettle for iron too but I did end up using a supplement too. Thanks for watching Lorann! I finally mailed your Power Pack on Friday. Sorry it was so late, but I just didn't make it to the post office before then. I hope you enjoy all of your goodies!
@@MikeTheFitFarmer Laci, I got my package today and was just so excited and impressed. I loved everything. You sent dandelion. I was going to order that and calendula. My sisters have to get infusions of iron through their veins because of Thalassemia, supplements dont work for them. Such a bummer.
Wait you both have thalassemia? We started homesteading(Holistic homestead on Facebook and Instagram) because my two toddlers and husband have Thalassemia beta minor. What supplements are you taking for iron? Thanks-shammah
I don't have Thalassemia but I typically have low hemoglobin. When I was pregnant and needed to get my levels up I tried using Yellow Dock, making a drink out of it (It was one of the worst things I have ever drank) but my levels were not coming up fast enough. I ended up taking a prescribed supplement called Integra that didn't have the same side effects of typical iron supplements. Plus it didn't have folic acid, which I can't take because of my MTHFR. It did a good job of getting my hemoglobin levels up high enough for me to have Micah at the birth center. ~ Lacie
Great video Lacie. I didn't realize how easy making herbal infusions could be. Thank you for teaching me. 🙄 do you do a similar thing for fresh herbs. I know the weight would be considerably heavier for the herbs going in.
Thank you Patrice!! I am not sure what it would be for fresh herbs. Sorry! But it only takes a few hours to dehydrate them in the dehydrator and if you don't have one you can usually find them cheap at Goodwill or some thrift store. Thanks so much for watching! ~ Lacie
I have looked a few times when I have gone to thrift stores. Unfortunately I have not even found a cheapo one. Pretty sure I am getting one for Christmas!
Lacie great video thank you! I’m really into super herbs and I look forward to learning so much from you! Thank you for all your inspiration! I noticed the strainer you used I would like to get one- can you fine me the link where you got it please? Also I LOVE the lip balm you sent me! Thank you so much 😊
Great Question! You could totally drink this every day but you could do one to two quarts a week. If you did 2 quarts a week you would only be using one pound of herb every two months.
Great info! I'm surprised that it doesn't sting going down. :-) I'm surrounded by stinging nettles out here. I'll have to try this next year with my own! Merry Christmas!
Baker Creek does have comfrey seeds but you can also buy a root cutting from other sources. We use Comfrey leaf in our oil infusions that I make salves out of.
Hello Lacie, loved your video on the Stinging Nettle infusion. I'm going to order the organic stinging nettle herb and try it, always looking for natural herbs to help keep me healthy. Also could you please send me your recipe for body balm using the stinging nettle herb and thank you. This is Joyce from Heavens Gates Cherry farm.🍒🍒🍒
True there are some herbs that you shouldn't take in large quantities but I have never read of any contraindications for taking Nettle. It is one of the safest herbs to use. Thanks for watching Wanda!
