I'm glad that you have cleanest ingredients including clean preservative. You are the one one I have come across that doesnt use emulsifier but uses beeswax instead. So natural and clean!
Word to people getting into making soap, lotion, body butters. Buy equipment and only use for making your products. Buy EASY to clean equipment. It takes forever to clean wax out of equipment. If you have a septic wash your equipment in a separate wash tub so the wax and oils do not go into your septic. Wax is very bad for your septic. I can't stress this enough. WAX is very bad for your plumbing and septic. This recipe is fantastic.

I make body butters and lotions. I use Ritamulse as my emulfiser (all the ingredients score a 1 on ewg and it's NON-GMO). I heard beeswax can separate so I have not personally tried it. I may have to experiment and use beeswax for my lotions. As my preservative, I use LEUCIDAL SF COMPLETE which is a natural preservative. I have not used opithen but have heard it's good from others. My only thing is all the concerns reported on ewg. I don't want to use that on my son especially because he already has eczema. Thank you for the lovely video.

I just made this lotion and it turned out so greasy. I used the exact oils as you have down in the recipe. I watched this video after making it and I'm wondering if I added to much shea butter. I weighed mine out to 2.3 and maybe that's incorrect. Any ideas?
You're welcome! This recipe makes 16 fl. oz. total, and I find that 4 oz. jars are a nice size. You could make 4 of the 4 oz. jars, or 2 of 8 oz. jars :)
How long will the lotion keep for? I guess I need to buy a food processor now! I have had several attempts at making my own lotion with a whisk and it always separates..
I've been reading all the labels in my house like a OCD person after having my first child & thought I was already on my paranoia game. All the fancy expensive pet to death by chinchilla products all full of poison. Read a Burts bees label & get ready to get mad. So I'm just going to make all my own stuff. My question is if you add a chemical preservative how can it still be organic? Can you just make a smaller batch & skip that step?
I wander if you can use it on your face. I have rosacea. I switched to instead of washing my face I use Witchhazel. It's really made a difference. Then I use some vitamin E lotion. But I also don't want to clog my pores.

My lotion keeps hardening? Can anyone help, I followed the recipe with the food processor until it thickened and emulsified and I scooped it into a nice glass jar. After a day it has gone back to a hard kind of bar? Am I doing something wrong
Try a recipe that gives weight instead of volumes since it is more precise. Like the beeswax, the more fine it is, the more you can pack in the spoon and that can alter the formula big time.
No, an antioxidant is different than a preservative. Antioxidants keep fats (oils, butters, etc) from going rancid, and are used in water-free products, such as balms. Preservatives are intended to prevent bacteria and mold from growing in water-based products, such as lotions.
No, it shouldn't, if it looks like that it might be trying to separate. I sometimes will have a batch fail if I try to make it in the blender, but a food processor always works perfectly. You might try a food processor, and try having the oil mixture nice and hot. Hope that helps!

The beeswax acts like an emulsifying agent, so it helps the oils and water combine. This recipe is different only in that it includes shea butter. Yes, you can definitely use aloe vera! I've done that before and it's really nice :) You're welcome!

Wilma L that’s because beeswax isn’t an emulsifier so the oil and water will separate to get a lotion that will last you’ll need to use an emulsifying wax like btms-50 or polowax they work really well beeswax has nothing in it that will emulsify the oils and water so your lotion will separate, it may look emulsified at first but over time the water will separate like yours. emulsifying waxes in their molecules have one end that likes water and the other that likes oil so that’s what keeps your lotion together but beeswax is just a wax so it won’t do this
@@roseysamuels2998 You are so right, I make lotion, hair conditioners etc, Btms 50 is the best, I have used beeswax it seperates and it is hard to clean your stuff.
What is it? Any emulsifying wax is not natural. True beeswax is not an emulsifier. Lecithin is plant based but will not hold an emulsification on its own.
Beeswax isn't an emulsifying wax. The natural stearic acid in shea butter makes it esier to emulsifiy with a wax but I won't bet on this lotion's stability
