Hey Erica..I had touched base with you a few months ago about making candles in these small tins. At that point you had suggested tealights instead, but I went ahead and did my own testing anyway. As you have given away so much free knowledge it's only fair to give it back. 🥰 So with these tins, they don't like the wick stickums.. they don't like being touched once the wax has been poured as well. I use a hot glue stick and they have been quite well behaved with those. With the stickums they were a nightmare, as half way through the burn, the oil & tin surface sort of remove the tack of the glue and the wicks just slipped and fell into the wax. 🤦 Hot glue is the way to go 👌

I’m so glad I saw this before I started as I need to measure my vessels and was not looking forward to putting hot wax in to measure. Funnily enough, a friend of mine gave me the exact way to measure yesterday! Love your tutorials x

I’m sure if you tried them or not, but I switched to glue dots to place my wicks and I don’t have any more issues with the wicks coming up.

Hi Erica, I love the look of your candles, especially the tin containers. I'm wondering if you face the same problem of the candle discolouring. Some people advised that it is because of the FO reacting to the metal container. Is that true? Could that be the problem?

Hi Erica. I have to use hot glue for wicking to my vessels. Those tabs just don’t work for me. I find my wicks floating in the wax. … Thank-you for all your advice and vids.

Hi first timer here lol I love your videos… so Idk if my scale is messed up, but i have 4 oz candle tins and got 7g FO and 82g wax when I try to measure for 6 tins it’s coming out to 42 g and apparently I only have 60ml of FO so I’m confused bc it doesn’t look like you use a ton of oil for yours and mine looks like the whole 2fl oz bottle when I measure in grams ☹️☹️☹️

The heat seems to move the wicks sticker adhesive because the tin gets hotter faster than glass or ceramic and clays. Especially being so small.

I love your videos. I hate math. Okay so if I am doing a 3 oz glass container I have 62 grams of water. Would I do 30% of FO? If so then 62 divided by 130 is 47.69 g. I would round it up to 48. I would subtract 62 - 48 = 14 g of FO and then that would give me 62 g of wax weight. I am doing 20 jars so i would do 280g of FO and 140g of wax. Is that right?

Hi! 30% FO is waaaay too high. Most waxes can hold up to 10%. Once you have the weight in grams you would need to multiply it by 0.86 to get the wax weight. 62 x 0.86 = 53 (rounded down) 53g is your fill weight! If you did 10% fragrance oil your equation would look like this: 53 / 110% = 48g (wax weight) 53 - 48 = 5g (FO weight) If you’re doing 20 jars you would multiply both those numbers by 20: 48 x 20 = 960g wax weight 5 x 20 = 100g FO weight Hope that helps!

It’s the difference in density between water and wax :) it’s something I learned more recently and it’s way easier than using wax for the initial fill weight! ❤️

Yep. It’s the average difference in the specific gravity of candle wax vs water. Candle wax, which is lighter than water, is approximately 86% “as heavy” as water. Kevin @ Armatage Candle Company explains it better than I can. Check him out if you’re a science nerd like me! Erica, thanks for another awesome video!
