That's awesome! and thank you for your kind words. It's a great way to practice game design! I'm working on a quick little Godot Engine "Make your First Game" video for anyone who wants to take a step into making their own games that others can play, and have tons more ideas for GBG content also. I even saw someone on the GBG subreddit who said that GBG helped launch them in the right direction and they ended up with a junior position ad a software company.
😲- Woah! 9:42 - 9:43 ---> I don't get motion sickness, but I grew up playing games and aim(ing) with a control stick... 9:44 - 9:45 ---> No, because I haven't touched Game Builder Garage since it initially was released; I didn't really see much draw for me to keep playing with it... > I did all of the tutorials and a good portion of the challenges!
Motion control can be so frustrating. I remember wanting to break my Wii remote after the first Girahim battle- but it did add a level of difficulty. If a game is going to have motion controls, I need them to be useful and doable.
I have yet to do a motion-control GBG game... BUT I have been wanting to recreate Wii Fit U's Free-Run mode (basically a jog-in-place [steps measured by Wiimote gyro] where you can change the channel, but the Wiimote tells you how far you've run). The simple course of running around the entire island while seeing all of your Miis run by is very near and dear to my heart... but I always wished you could do more with it. Like point and click at easter eggs for points, or race some runners, etc. Haven't been playing as much GBG lately, but that idea's definitely been on the mind for the past few months.
Thats a really cool idea! I loved how Nintendo incorporated Miis into all kinds of things before, they need to add some more of that personality back. I never played the Ring Fit Trainer game for Switch but I think it has some runs through environments.
I had that in Wii Fit Plus and always used to watch NFS Heat videos. 😂 I wonder how are you gonna recreate the speaker feature. Also idk about the Wii U version, but Wii Fit Plus also had a mode where you jogged for a shorter time and you had to pay attention to the surroundings because it asked you questions after the jog. It kinda had some 8-bit Mario Sprites easter eggs aswell. That is kinda similar to what you saidz even tho I understand you were essentially talking about a free roam mode
@@DaveNodon It does indeed! With collectibles (resources for making shakes) and the sort. But I'm quite attached to my Miis, so Ring Fit just isn't the same.
@@vittosphonecollection57289 I nearly forgot about that. I have Wii Fit Plus, but ever since I upgraded to Wii Fit U, I stopped playing the older versions. Yeah, I do remember being quizzed in that game, I guess I just really miss that sort of "hey, pay attention" feature in the jog. In Wii Fit U, they replaced it with the island lap, which gets shorter/longer depending on whether you followed the Mii in front (regular route), the cat (took the scenic route, but would sometimes shorten the run due to shortcuts), or the dog (took the quickest route, but you had to run faster) - and the cats and dogs would constantly appear ahead of you, so you could switch up the course 3 or 4 times throughout the jog. It was a neat, fun feature, but I do miss HAVING to pay attention to the jog - it helped me feel more immersed. As for the speaker feature? I'd likely just use the rumble feature to rumble a set amount of times to let you know how far you were in the run. Possibly a quick vibration to let you know "5 more minutes", so 4 vibrations mean "20 more minutes"... something like that. If I ever did make something like this on GBG, then my goal would be to create varied courses that could randomize and switch into one another. That way, jogs will feel different every time.
@@mrdocena8082 This is really interesting! School has given me an assignment to make a certain target audience exercise more often and I was thinking of a ‘race your colleague’ through a magical world or environment type game. Almost exactly like you described. I wouldn’t know where to start though. If you have any developments on this project please don’t hesitate to let me know, I’m all ears!
Thanks so much for this awesome tutorial! I’ve always wanted to be a game dev, and now I have something to impress my friends with when they come over 😅 ❤
I'm building a nerf fps in game builder garage and will it be possible to make the ink weapons in splatoon an make it so the ink stays on the ground in game builder garage?
2:15 If you want to be more precise but more costly, the mathematical way to determine the speed in any direction is sqrt(x^2+y^2+z^2), for the x, y, and z speeds. You'd plug each speed output into both inputs of its own Multiply Nodon to square it, then plug each of those Multiply Nodon into the same Square Root Nodon.
@@DaveNodon True! It’s pretty awesome. My school encourages you to use any kind of prototyping tool as long as you can put your vision into it. GBG is perfect for such things.
