So this is it! You have been asking for years how to do this and even if it's possible. Not recommended, albeit pretty cool. How to connect your #BMWfoglights to an #ezcan

Very helpful! I will definitely leave my factory horn attached in addition to the Soundbomb, love the options there. Tempted to cut the harness and bring the Nanos into the CanSmart. Thank you for ALL your awesome videos!!!!

Hey Steve, Love the horn delay feature. I always thought when installing the soundbomb you unplug the OEM horn and replace it. but as you demonstrated the OEM horn is still active. Do you have a video on how to make the two work together? Cheers from the Netherlands

Great video and very informative! Would it be possible to use posi tap connectors instead of cutting the harness? I am thinking of connecting my OEM pods but not comfortable cutting wires just yet

Steve, this is a nice video illustrating the possibilities of incorporating the ezCan. Do you think a schematic can be posted somewhere?

Have you checked the bike's internal fault codes? I've done this on my -19 GSA, and even if it's a bit older, I think they work the same. During my 'operation', I learned the following.. The two unidentified wires are used for reporting back any problem with the lights. They are not in any way related to the On/Off swithing of the lights. And for thefeedback to work they need the grnd wire to be connected as it is. Cutting it and grounding it will throw an internal fault code. The fault code is not visible on the instrument panel, but it will not clear unless the lights are restored to OEM connections. And with an active faultcode, the bike will not allow for ANY further software upgrade, if ever needed. Also, if you allow the negeative wire to remain connected, the Aux light button on handlebar will work, as this button turns the lights on and off by isolating the negative wire to ground. So, what to do: By cutting the Positive supply wire ONLY and connect it to the positive output from EZ can, and connect the EZ Caan output to ground, you will have the lights working as desired. And the Handlebar switch will work, and there will be no internal faultcodes... This means you open up the wire harness after where it's split to get acces to the left and right supply wire only. Then you seal the harnes afterwards with the same type of tape used by BMW

Hi, I read with interest your comment. I’m in the process of doing this on a new bike so I don’t want any fault codes when going for a service. So, where do you actually connect the negative output from the EZ can? Just add it to the intact brown wires in the spotlight wiring loom, or elsewhere on the bike? Thanks
@knutk4256
@knutk4256 Год назад
@@slipthegreyhound, You assume correct. Leave the ground wire in the bike harness as is (That is: Un-cut). You cut the red/blue wire ONLY, and connect the EZ can positive output to the red/blue end that leads to the light and insulate the open red/blue part that leads to the bike side of the harness, as it is still kept at +12V. Depending on how the EZ can is connected internally, you may either connect the EZcan ground wire to the bike ground, (just anywhere convenient) or you may simply leave it not connected. Grounding it will for sure work, but depending on the internal ground, the supply ground may be sufficient. A test will reveal what needs to be done. The clue is: The red/blue wire from the OEM harness is hot all the time while ignition is on. The bike turns the AUX lights on/off by controlling the ground connection. Thus, the OEM lights on/off switch on the handlebare is kept functioning as it controls the ground connection, while the EZ can controls the positive supply and will make it possible to dim the lights as well as flash the lights along with the signal lights (if you use two chanels from the EZ can, intercepting the blu/red cable after it's being split in the OEM harness). The only limitation that this way of doing it is that if the EZcan is programmed to leave the AUX lights on a while after the engine is stopped, the bike will block this from happening as it shuts off the ground to the lights when engine is stopped. The positive effect is that all the bike-controlled funtions regarding the AUX lights are intact.

I'm sure with a bit of research if you can have the switch operate the OEM lights through the EZcam then there must be a way of using the switch to turn on/off additional Denali lights

2022 R1250RT Owner here 👋 I tried the Red and Blue wire with no luck so I gave it a go and found out that yes brown is ground but purple (left light) and white (right light) are the ones you’re able to tap into. The red and blue wire did nothing for my RT. Thanks for the video tho!

Steve, a fresh female (conductor, male plastic plug body) JWPF connector should still have un pierced resin/rubber seal, so this can be used to plug up the (opposite sex) connector on the motorcycle wiring to prevent moisture ingress & shorting out the wiring, instead of just wrapping it up with electrical tape! That plug can be transferred to the Denali cabling if the original factory wiring path were to be restored. Also, one could use a Denali 2-conductor (MT to JWPF) wiring adapter (packaged with CANsmart for B6 brake light connection) instead of creating de novo an adapter/harness from a male MT pigtail & female JWPF connector.

Hi Steve …. Another great informative video 👍 …. Workshop Looks fantastic👍….. I like the delay feature on the SoundBomb, is this something that I can do on my Denali CanSmart/Sound Bomb set, is there a feature in the CanSmart program if that I’ve missed? Great feature if it can be done, like you said “your not scaring little old lady’s” ….. Thanks Mark

Fantastic video. Just placed an order from Steve for the D7 bundle for my GS plus all required accesories to get the nano pods working like this. It will certainly require some effort but I am confident that with patience and Tom and Steve's help, I can get the job done. BTW I am all the way down in Honduras, Central America and I much rather purchase from A Bike Thing than dealers closer to me. That's how much I appreciate Steve's effort to create this great content and him really standing behind his customers. Thank you again.

THIS DOES NOT WORK! I have spent hours trying to get this to happen. If the lights switch on full power, and just turn them on/off its ok, but, if you try and dim them, turn off whilst indicating, or strobe, it brings a error message on the dash and logs an 'invisible' fault code, ie no indication on the dash. If you cut all the wires it brings a fault up immediately. Maybe if you get BMW to 'dial out the fogs it will work, but this video is a bit misleading. I tried this and ended up putting it back to OEM wiring. There's another comment on here which basically states the same.
