I just grabbed Brian’s book and started emailing and calling property management companies today. Brian is a top notch guy. He talks about reaching out for help in his book and I was surprised to see him respond back to a message. I’ve currently been an online fitness trainer and accountability coach for 14 years. Wanted to add another income stream and this one couldn’t be easier. I’m expecting one property to say yes this week and I don’t even have a broom yet. Lol!!! I will let you know how it goes.
Hi Ben, I just saw your comment. Great way to grab the bull by the horns! Would you mind sharing any update with us on the progression of your business?
I worked for a sweeping company and I'm about to quit an start my own business because you dont need a sweeper truck on foot with a grabber is much more efficient
I enjoyed Brian's story. I can attest that I have done this type of work thru temporary agency or day labor companies. We did larger properties. I had no idea you could make 6 figures type of money or you can do it as a side hustle. INTERESTING.
@@InspiredMoney I did similar work at a lake. It was easy work and actually made me a happier person from what I noticed. The most challenging thing for me was the weather and the annoying Co worker I had to work with lol. During the summer months, the heat could be brutal if you're out there for too long. And the same can be said for the really cold and icy months. Other than that, this was one of the best jobs that I ever had. The people really appreciate it and are constantly telling you how grateful they are for your service.
Let me know if you have questions for Brian. Iʻm planning to bring Brian back to ask him about how his business fared during the pandemic. We can also dig deeper into how to set up a litter pick-up business.
I enjoy fixing things and am employed as an Engineer for a property management company. I enjoy operating machines that people work in. I have always been a tinkerer. But, an absolute passion of mine is litter! I can't stand seeing it! I spend hours with my grabber picking up trash around the neighborhood. It's great for the soul and people appreciate it. I would love to start such a business and start working for myself. I'm getting a bit too old for wrench turning! I'm in the Boston suburbs and would love to join a crew or start one.
If this is a serious business venture and starting out brand new, what are the steps required to start sales pitch? Register new LLC or Sole Proprietor? Website, marketing, etc.
I'd start simple. No website or fancy marketing materials. Reach out to property management companies in your area to see if they need litter pick up services.
Thanks Martin. FYI, we have Brian back on the show this week, a video interview that digs a deeper into how to start and operate a litter pick up business.
Sorry if I missed it.. but what’s the best way to contact the property management companies? Do you just walk into the business and ask for their info or do you research online?
Based on what Brian said, it’s a soft sell. Since you don’t know when property management companies are going to make a change from their current provider, you identify them and reach out to introduce yourself. Gently check in regularly. If you land one, you can pick up more properties from the same property management company based on your good work.
@@InspiredMoney Excellent idea. Last weekend, I wrote down the name of realtors managing properties for sale. It's a complete disgrace to the city of Chicago: there is garbage everywhere. What's weird is that after I spend a couple of hours cleaning up the entire Mag Mile corridor, the rest of the day, there is no garbage. So, I am not sure why the alderman for the Loop doesn't compel the sanitation department to send out one person every Sat and Sun morning just to make it look nice for the millions of tourists. After I cleaned the area in front of the upper Wacker Diego Castro monument, people were then able to gather and sit on the benches that had been covered in litter. In short, I hope they pay me! Or even better, I hope they read my emails to the city so that it stays beautiful all the time.
Hi Kelvin. Thanks for your comment. I’ve got Brian Winch coming back for a video interview so we can learn more about starting a business. The episode will drop in two weeks.
