🙏🏼 It’s taken me a LONG time to find this video again. I made this rice soon after watching this for the first time, not long after you posted it. I have made your rice many, many times since then! Without doubt, this is THE best recipe for pilau rice. Can I also say, your presentation style is perfect - no drama, no random music, no “social media” voiceover 🙉, not making it all about you… just cooking!!! 😍😇 If you haven’t made this rice yet, you are missing a treat! This nearly made me fall asleep - in a good way. Very relaxing and therapeutic to watch. Could have watched it all day. This rice looks delicious. I only cook for myself so never bother to make rice with whichever dish I am cooking but I will definitely make an exception and give this a go. Thank you 🙂

This is a very different method and style of pulao cooking. I have to try this. I wonder how it tastes! I wonder if the rice has the fragrance of turmeric in the end which is not supposed to happen for pulao. That is more suitable for curry rice! For pulao, the color mostly usually comes from either saffron or food coloring.

I made this with wholegrain Basmati rice, only soaked for 20 m and sauteed the cooked rice with the spices in the pan. I don't use salt in the cooking water as the rice cooks quicker. Another winner Misty. Thank you.

Iusually throw in the spices in while the rice is boiling, but I'd say this definitely releases alot more flavour. :)

This look great! Is there much difference if you use butter instead of ghee? or is just better with ghee?

Both butter and ghee will give a nice richness. Butter has a more distinctive dairy flavour. Use whichever you prefer. Thanks.

Also butter can burn because of the milk solids. Ghee is clarified butter so you can cook at high temperatures with it.

Hi! pls can you tell me the quantity of rice and water? I need to cook for 30 people in a party and i would like to havr a perfect pilau rice! Thank you!

Hi Katherine. This method is excess water method, so just use a very big pot full of simmering water, and add mmm let me think... 10 mugs of rice should be plenty. Follow the recipe though, initially rinse and drain the rice repeatedly until the water is clear. Soak for an hour in lots of water and drain again etc. If you don't have a big enough pot, make in batches. Hope that helps.

Could this be cooked in the ninja foodi? If so what method would you recommend?

Yes just cook at a gentle simmer for this recipe (excess water method), or you could use the absorption method of any given recipe. Not familiar with ninja foodie, but I'm sure it's similar to the Instant Pot which I do own.

Can I saute first and then add the rice, turmeric, lemon, etc. eventually to add more flavor?

Hi, I'm not totally sure what you are asking. If you mean to fry the whole spices at the beginning, then add rice, turmeric, water etc, then yes you could try it that way. I haven't tried this recipe using that method. Give it a go and let me know.

oil in water to prevent sticking is a myth, same for pasta. it just floats atop the water. great curry methods though, thankyou

Yes. Use absoprtion method, so a lot less water... 1 to 2 x rice quantity. Make sure rice is especially well washed after soaking to remove the starch.

Pilau is always white when I get it from restaurants, some places have a few red and green scattered amongst white

+angie S it was basmati rice. The name of the brand I used escapes me, but since I've started using Duwali (sic) top quality basmati.

nope... mustard seeds, curry leaves & methi seeds goes with vegetables curry called sambar sometimes with fish curry not with pilaf yes u can use them with lemon rice, curd rice, puliyogere , bisebelebath , vangi bath list goes on but never ever with pilaf or biryani rice . appreciate your work though
