Salt the oil instead of the popped corn. This ensures an even coating of salt on the popcorn. I also check my oil temperature by adding a few kernels in the pan with the cold oil. I then heat the oil until all the kernels pop, at which point you know the oil is ready... then add the rest of the corn to the pan and shake around to coat. At this point I remove the pan from the heat and let it sit for about 30seconds. This allows all the kernels to heat up in the oil, so when you finally do put it back on the heat, they all pop very quickly and nothing ever burns.

How much oil do you add to the pan
@PinchePuercaVato
@PinchePuercaVato 4 года назад
"the oil is just so the popcorn wont stick to the pan" my dude popcorn is not sticking to any pan. the oil is used to conduct heat faster, evenly, and more efficiently than air thus making the kernels 'pop' before they burn. its important to know the oil's purpose because it's much more relevant to cooking in general.

1) I pour the oil in my pot 2) Put three kernels in the pot with the top on and turn the stove to medium-high (closer to medium). 3) Shake the pot every once and awhile, wait for the all three kernels to pop 4) Add all the kernels in, take it off the heat for 30 seconds and shake it to evenly coat the kernels in oil, then place it back on the heat. 5) Then just shake it fairly frequently (with the lid cracked a tiny bit, makes the popcorn more crispy) and wait till you hear no more popping (or popping slows down quite a bit). Haha, it sounds confusing, but it's very simple and I find this the best way to never burn it and you barely have any uncooked popcorn kernels afterwards.

A little tip, when the popcorn is done popping, remove from stove, take off the lid and qiuckly cover with a kitchen towel. The towel will let steam escape and prevent condensation so your popcorn stays crisp while allowing heat to dissipate. After a minute or so you won't have any more delayed pops to deal with.

If you shake the pot, the popped kernels will go to the top, and the unpopped will stay on the bottom. No burning. Also, for a twist use flavored olive oil. We have made it with rosemary infused olive oil (butter and salt normally) and it was so good.

The most important thing is to use the right kind of oil when popping corn on a stove top. That is due to my experience in trying different oils. I found that corn oil works the best than canola or peanut oil. Use a little oil to coat the bottom of the pot before heating it up gradually with the lid on. And I ended up with more popcorns than with kernels when I used a thin coating of corn oil. Believe me, I tried it and it worked very well for me. When I used other oils, the popcorn didn't pop well. So now, I have more popcorn to enjoy and its not even burnt.

This is what I do when I cook popcorn on the stove top, I place the oil in the pan and maybe about 4-5 kernels at the bottom and wait until those pop then just add the rest of the popcorn kernels and cover with the lid. Take the pot of for about 10-15 seconds and shake it around and then throw it back on the stove. The rest of the kernels should pop straight away as the oil is already heated up! It's fail proof pop corn every time as they all pop evenly without burning! Then just add your salt and butter and enjoy!!

Thanks for this recipe Benji! can't wait to try it. I love that you guys don't have a microwave. Even though some things are much quicker in the microwave, cooking something on the stove or toaster oven seems like a healthier route. Thanks for all the food & life inspirations.
@LinkEX
@LinkEX 10 месяцев назад
That's actually a misconception. In fact, heating your veggies in the microwave actually preserves _more_ nutrients than boiling them in water. There are no unhealthy processes going on in the microwave, it's literally just heat created by getting the molecules moving.
@brendandefrancisco5817
@brendandefrancisco5817 9 месяцев назад
@@LinkEX there's a tradeoff. While a microwave doesn't reach high enough temperatures to create the carcinogens found in grilled/fried foods, they've been found to destroy certain nutrients such as polyphenols. For the best of both worlds healthwise, steaming may be the best method of cooking.

For the fluffiest popcorn: Use a heavy pot and I like canola oil. Get the oil as hot as possible BEFORE adding the kernels. (NEVER add kernels to cold oil) I use med high heat. (The hotter the better) Just be careful not to burn it. Burnt popcorn sucks! Use a vented lid so the steam can escape and not get your popcorn all soggy. I don't shake shit! There's enough shaking going on with each pop of the kernels to keep things moving. I then dump it all in a box, close the top and shake so the small stuff exits out the narrow slits I made in the box. You know, the unpopped kernels and small crap no one wants to eat. I add some Flavacol and maybe some butter, mix it up and dump it into the serving bowl. DONE. I like the box because it's big and each and every popcorn is coated pretty much equally.

+wolfattack 1/2 cup kernels 2 tbsp oil... heat oil medium heat add 3 kernels after first kernel pops add kernels. take off heat periodically to release steam and use a wide spoon to shift the bottom popcorn so they dont overcook. when popping slows 2 - 3 seconds betwen pops its done.

+wolfattack Put the popcorn in only when the oil is really hot. And also when you hear the first pop, lower the flame of the stove.

Hey, I recommend after adding the corn inside the pan, cover it and shake it left to right so that the corn will still be heated but they will not burn :) ! It is an easy trick to get away with it :)
